Posting Guidelines and Forum Housekeeping -- a How To for Memrise staff, regulars, leaders, and members

##Topic starters:

You can start any topic you like, but please follow these guidelines when starting a topic about a course you created or are a contributor to, or when you want to leave feedback about the site, apps, or forum. This is to make it easier to find your topics in the future and to hopefully make the forum less disorganized.

If you start a [Course Forum] topic:

Please put [Course Forum] at the start of the title of your topic. Also please add the tag course-forum to the topic, see picture. Adding the tag will make your topic show up in Topics tagged course-forum for easier browsing.

Also please put a link to the course in the post. A short description of the course would be nice too.

If you have feedback for the website (or forum), you can start a [Site Feedback] topic:

Please add [Site Feedback] at the start of the title of your topic. Also please add the tags feedback and site-feedback to the topic. Adding the tags will make your topic show up in feedback and site-feedback.

If you have feedback about either the Android or the iOS app, you can start an [App Feedback] topic.

Again, please now add [App Feedback] at the start of the title of your topic. Also please add the tags feedback and app-feedback to the topic. Adding the tags will make your topic show up in feedback and app-feedback.

You can also start a [Wiki] post.

Just add [Wiki] at the beginning of the title and add the wiki tag and ask a regular, leader, or perhaps Memrise staff to make the post a wiki for you.

You can add any tags to your topics that already exist

Want a tag added to your post that doesn’t exist yet? Send a pm to one of these users or leave a reply in this topic:

Go here to request tags for your topic or to ask that your post be made into a Wiki

And of course, please put your post in the right category with a good descriptive title.

Staff, leaders, and regulars:

Be bold!

If you come upon a topic that is in the wrong category, put it in the right category

If a topic should be in the Spanish subcategory, put it there.

If you come upon a topic that would benefit from a tag, add that tag

Usually for topics about languages that don’t have a separate category.

Also now for [Course Forum], [Site Feedback], and [App Feedback] topics, please change the titles and tags according to the guide above. This allows for easier browsing of those topics in course-forum, feedback, site-feedback, and app-feedback

If a topic doesn’t have a clear heading, change it

Help! becomes Why can’t I add words to my course? In the right category of course. And VERBS, VERBS, VERBS becomes [Course Forum] VERBS, VERBS, VERBS with the course-forum tag.

An identical question was already asked somewhere else?

Consider merging the two topics.

A topic contains useful info for the category?

Consider pinning it to the top of the category

A topic or post would benefit from being made into a wiki?

Make it so. Or make it so after or before asking the poster.

Have more ideas? Feel free to add them.

I have been doing the majority of housekeeping until now. I will stop or drastically reduce that now.

When I tried to add tags to my own threads before, it didn’t seem to work : / Thanks for linking to the tags page!

EDIT: Whoops, missed that part at the bottom about tags only being for leaders…

I think you should be able to edit your own topic and add tags to it that already exist? If you want to add a tag to it that doesn’t already exist, you can ask Memrise staff or a leader – I don’t like that you can’t currently create your own tags.

Thank you @Arete_Hime for all you are doing in establishing guidance and tidying up.

I found if I forgot to add tags, then if I went to edit the top thread (or was it the title), it gave me the space to add tags. You may also have to “save” if you are given that option.

Would you like to have a tag added to your post that doesn’t exist yet? Or would you like to have your post made into a wiki? Send a pm to one of these users or leave a reply in this topic:

A post was merged into an existing topic: Hello! Let’s introduce ourselves

You can @NathanieI, perhaps you are new to the Forum and there is a delay to privileges to reduce robots spamming.
