Memrise website and apps are down [ Edit: Fixed! ] (and Closed )

Are we ever going to be able to start getting our streaks again and to be able use the web app to update progress? I lost a 36 day streak and cannot even get a 1 day streak anymore and while that may not be important to some people, I am competitive and it keeps me learning when I am for a streak. I don’t want to use my phone for the app because it is convenient to be able to use my laptop.

Could you tell us the course where the Audio review is not working for you?

Yes, getting the streaks back up is the next big thing on the list after the button counters!

Looks like web app’s reviews are working fine for me already, thanks for that.

Appears that the comma/strict type problem is eliminated, too.

During downtime, i made the reviews on Android, though, and it did not synchronized with the web app, so looks like i will have to review those 900 words, again. I am not sure if it should synchronize, or this is the way it works (because normally i wouldn’t use the mobile app)

Same here as well. Pressing “Review”, brings me to the loading screen, then back to the homepage. On web.

Agree with vinc and adam. Going on specific levels still doesn’t work. Also, I’m a little trepidatious of reviewing because I don’t want the system to mess up the intervals if I keeps reviewing the same word.

Thanks for the update. I have attempted reviewing some of my courses on the website to see what is working now.

So far, I have been able to review some courses from the blue “Review” button on the course homepage but for some others eg “A2 Spanish - Beyond Beginner”, I have had a similar problem to @vincislao and pressing the blue “Review” button just reloads the course homepage.

As for “Difficult Words” following review, I noticed that they were showing as “Difficult” (with the yellow lightening flash) in the summary list but were not being displayed on the button on the course homepage. So it is currently still not possible to re-test these.

it looks like the review counter is incorrect and there are actually no words ready for review. so when you press the review button the system checks and returns you to the main page.
I can see this on a course I have just started. I had 5 words for review and I was able to review them ok. after the review the points were updated but the review counter still says 5 words for review. When I press review again i see the loading page and then am returned to the course main page. this is because the 5 words i have just reviewed now show “in 9 days”.

But for me it sends to the course page despite I still could not review any words from this course in these last days.

My words to repeat get more and more every day. And I seem to get the same words every time I repeat them (20 at a time).
It’s been too long already, so just to let you know what damage you do: I bought a one year busuu pro account now, even though I might prefer memrise and without those bugs my money would probably have gone here.

busuu’s not bad, I’ve been using it, but you still need something like Memrise for vocabulary.

Thanks for pointing this out, Arete_Hime! I don’t think I would have thought of that.

I just tracked down an item I had reviewed when the problems were still fresh, and it was scheduled for 5 days from now. It still showed the “1 item to review” button in the level though, so I clicked it, answering the same item correctly again. It’s now set for 12 days from now! Be careful with this, everyone. It could really mess up your review spacing if you do the same items over and over again.

I’ll personally be continuing to do the absolute minimum on Memrise until this is all sorted out.

If I know I have a problem with a word or sentence I select either the wrong word or type a wrong answer to keep that word or sentence in short time term to show up again.
It is one solution to the current problem of the same word(s) showing up over and over again.

I can’t learn on web; getting error “Whoops. Could not load the session. Sorry.”

I can’t learn on iOS app; getting error “There is nothing to learn in this game mode. Please try a different one.”

Very, very frustrated. I’m a heavy user, with a pro membership, and I am fed up.

It’s official, I am going to quit using this site.

You cannot have BROKEN basic functionality for FOUR days straight and expect anyone to give a flying crap about your service anymore.

I will recommend EVERYONE to use Anki or another website – please give me suggestions for alternatives to this broken pile of garbage.

I understand that people get upset when things are broken and everyone expects a miracle of an immediate fix. But that’s not how it works. And with our technology it’s even less likely to have something fixed fast particularly if a code got broken in several directions which it obviously is. Give the Memrise team the chance to fix it no matter how long it’s taking. You want it to work again properly, right?

And yes things can be broken for longer than 4 days, threatening people will not help. And I don’t think anyone cares if you leave or not. People leave for the smallest reason even if everything works perfect. And others will come and stay. That’s live.

I won’t leave. I will wait until Memrise fixes the problem and will continue learning and repeating as much as I can under the current circumstances.

And yes, I am a Pro user, but I am waiting patiently.

Thanks Memrise for the update on the server problems. It must be a difficult and complicated task for which we should all have due patience. I’m sure it will be sorted out soon. I am unable to review new words right after I’ve learned them so I’ve taken to writing them in lists and testing myself that way until the site is back up and running properly. All the best everyone with your learning. :grinning:
