No problem. Everything is a learning process.
So true. The most ridiculous thing is, that everyone has to read as the first message above everything that “EVERYTHING SHOULD BE WORKING CLOSE TO NORMAL”. lol I don’t know anything that is working, because the main thing on Memrise is reviewing old vabulary before anything else is done and reviewing doesn’t work.
Yes, exactly my problem. I probably spend about three-quarters of my Memrise time reviewing and this was still not working properly last time I checked, about two hours ago.
I’m guessing things still aren’t working. My home page is completely blank of courses and it has a message on the top saying that there are problems with the site currently. Do other people have courses on their homepages (along with the message) or is there something weird with mine as well?
I even can’t learn new words any more now, it get’s stuck on the overview page. Guess I’ll use ProVoc (or Anki) offline now to learn my vocabulary (and as I already mentioned, busuu for grammar). Or even get my real flashcards out again.

I just tested what’s working and what’s not working.
If you go to an individual course page and select a lesson, you can review the words in that lesson. (The web address will look something like this: http://www.memrise.com/course/55058/complete-turkish/59/ for lesson 59.) After reviewing, if you refresh the page, you’ll see that the words that were up for review went from, “now,” to “in 6 days,” “in 12 days,” “in 24 days,” or something similar. The blue review button above the word list will still say, “Review 15 words,” (or whatever), and the word count on your dashboard (and your course page) will not change, but I expect that when everything gets sorted out soon, Memrise will count those words as watered.
Note: If after a review session, the lesson’s word list says, “in 6 days,” and then you click review again, when you refresh the lesson after the second review session, than those words will be due again in 12 days. If you review a third time, they’ll be due in 24 days.
You can plant/learn new words in a similar fashion. Go to an individual lesson page, such as http://www.memrise.com/course/55058/complete-turkish/60/, and then click, “Learn these words.” If you refresh the lesson page after a planting session, you’ll see that you successfully planted some words. If you plant the whole lesson, the “learn these words” button won’t change, however, and the progress bar above it will still be empty. On the course page, the color of the lesson icon won’t change either. But those words were successfully planted. If you want to review those newly-planted words in 4+ hours, you’ll have to edit the url to http://www.memrise.com/course/55058/complete-turkish/60/garden/review_level/.
I hope this helps!
@Kaspian, the better approach is to review from the course’s main page. If you review from a level page, you will be presented with the number of items the counter at the top says, even if there are no items due for review now. Reviewing from the course’s main page does work as it should.
Thanks @Arete_Hime. This is helpful advice, which lets me catch up a bit with my backlog.
But, at the end of a review session, I’m not seeing a “levels” button - only one for “Next”. So, the route I’m having to take back to course homepage is to click on the black “X” and then scroll down my pinned course list again. But this seems to work ok - at least, it offers me a fresh set of tests. Obviously, the review counter doesn’t reduce, though.
Thanks again!
I just tested that. I was wrong (and I deleted that part from my post). You can just click next and “Review (234)” to start a new reviewing session.
I am also guessing you can just review from your dashboard, but I have too many items due for review to be able to confirm that.
Yep! I just tried that with a course that was only showing 2 items to review and it worked OK.
I guess the thing to do is to just keep going around the loop until you reach the stage where clicking on “Review” just reloads the course homepage.
agree. The site is still not working as it should.
Thanks for the detailed reply. I will check the system out later.
That was posted 16:55 GMT yesterday, 9 November. Three days after the problem started. Do you not agree that with 22 members of staff at their disposal that that was unpardonably slow?
Yes, that message was from yesterday. But if you go to that link and go all the way up you can see messages from Memrise from the first day it happened.
So many people opened new messages about the same problem, do you really expect Memrise to put answers in all those messages? People should stick to the original message instead of opening new ones.
I tested app on Android this morning. I used “learn Spanish for Polyglot”. At first I tried a few words. It looks like it’s saving the progress. But after I completed my daily goal, the app no longer saves the progress.
It’s a completely waste of my time to ignore 60 words and to learn 72 new words today. This sucks!
Don’t do anything until Memrise completely fixed this issue. You will be disappointed.
I’m getting worried. It’s been five days now and the same message about fixing the problem ASAP is there on the site. Why isn’t it possible to be a bit more communicative? Maybe let us know when Memrise THINKS the problem will be solved. Or do they think it will?
Yes, it seems like they are doing nothing. I’ve just bought premium and site is not working so I’ve wasted my money. Also my streak is gone… WTF?
This is really the first problem I have had, but it is serious. I like the
site, but if you don’t practice and learn every day, it’s a real bummer! I
am looking for another site. The Memrise site has gotten too big and they
are singularly unresponsive to any issue. Sorry about your problems!
