[Course Forum] Turkish 1-7 by Memrise

@Kaspian
Thanks, but I am not really sure to understand this. If I say that the bank is open, I am meaning a specific bank, and I have to point it out. I cannot describe something which is unknown. What do you think?
if “a bank = banka”, then how do I say “the bank”?

Hi,
In Turkish, you don’t need to specify the word “bank” when you describe it
with an adjective. You will just say “bank” without any need for suffixes.
Banka açık, banka kalabalık, banka büyük, banka çok yoğun etc.
So, bankayı açık is completely wrong, but you can say “bankayı açtık”- we
opened the bank. (bank-the open-we-were)
Please ask any other questions if you need to!
Have a great week!

  1. Course 1: Tavuk eti - Chicken
In course 2 you learn Tavuk - Chicken so this can be confusing as there is no (meat) in the english eq.
  2. Course 2: Külot - panties
  3. Course 2: Pantolon - Pants
Source for 2 & 3: a Turk I know corrected me on this in a conversation

Hi Zlitch,
Thanks for your interest in our Turkish course.
For issue, number 1, I have added the explanation in brackets as “meat”.
For issue number 2, the definition was not panties, but as pants, still an explanation is added in brackets as “underwear”.
For issue number 3, pantolon is not pants, it is given as trousers.
One thing to add, all the English definitions are based on British English in our course.

Please dig into the course, and while you are studying take notes if you have further suggestions.
Have a nice learning journey!

Hi! In Turkish course 6, topic 23 “Falling in Love” there is a word “dul”. The Memrise translation is “divorced”, but all dictionaries say “widowed”.

Hi Natalia
Sorry for the late reply. I really didn’t have the opportunity to check the forums.
As there is a maintenance in the website currently, I cannot make any corrections, but here it is supposed to be:
In Turkish “dul” includes both, divorced or widowed.
I will correct in the course as soon as possible.

Hello everyone;

I was busy and not using Memrise, but I found some time to really do some progress…

I would like to ask about something; the Turkish keyboard provided for writing doesn’t include the letter â and this will force the user get a mistake as here

I really don’t know if the issue has been reported or not yet.

Thank you

Thank you for your reply; Is it possible to add a button for “â” like other turkish letters in Web? Since I believe they are more words like:

Hello, in Level 5 politics:

Türkiye’nin nin ilk cumhurbaşkanı … I think one nin is enough

and in Level 5 choosing a leader in sentence: bu yıl Demokrat Parti daha iyi sonuçlar alacak - the audio is not complete.

Hi bashimam,
Maybe you have tried, now  is part of the keyboard in Turkish tests.

Thanks for your patience,
Ayse Tuba

In level five, 1. Talking about the crew. The word Wednesdays (çarşambaları) is wrongly translated to “mondays” while responding to the question.

Which course is this? If you post the link to the course and tag the course creator (if possible), there is a higher chance or response.
