Hydroptere - so, you’ve made it perfectly clear that you don’t like the new decoration scheme. Ok, got it. But what’s the big deal? If they’ve added a feature that you feel is for children, why not just ignore it? Does it really interfere with your learning? Why insult learners who find it refreshing?

You’re the one who wanted to compare this with Khan Academy features. Well, if that’s how you’re thinking, consider this advice from their site:

You’re an adult. You are here because you wish to learn, and you probably do not need the extra motivation of the point, badges and game mechanics. Don’t let them become an obstacle to learning what you want, and choosing your own path to knowledge."

You can advocate for continued support for course-creators and mems, or urge the development of advanced learning features that are currently missing from the site. Memrise is big enough to have a marketing department AND a development group AND a bug repair department. It’s not like the art department is doing this instead of writing software.

The ranks are not a big issue for me and the proposed change will not affect my learning in any negative way.
If anything I think an update of the images would be a small improvement.

Having just read the first post above and tried out the Android App (see [App & Site Feedback] Differences between the WEB version and an APP version) I think there is a good case for two MemRise versions.

• The Space App - which has evolved over the last two years or so, with all the ‘features’ and gizmos and

• The original web version with planting, ranks, multimedia levels etc as experienced on the web several years ago, when keen users created a whole host of language and non-language courses to enhance the user’s experience.

[Site Feedback] A New Ranking Above "Overlord"?

I too have have supported the idea of more ranks. I’ve previously suggested transitory ranks might be nice and offer encouragement. I have been a Memonist for so long and I thought a Class 3 at 2.5M points, Class 2 at 3.25M and Class 1 at 4.25M might be a simple solution. Similar options could be applied to all higher ranks including an Overlord - thus pushing the target higher.

[Site Feedback] Better visibility for new courses, issues with the app, accountability for absentee course creators -- with possible solutions to each

First, a simple question: Is anyone else learning a course on their desktop, but are unable to practice the same course on the app version? If anyone else is experiencing this, please reply. Secondly, I’d like to talk about the implications of this issue. My experience has been that relatively new courses (less than 3 weeks old) do not appear in language results on the app – and these new courses cannot be accessed on the mobile app. This seems like a major disincentive for content creators. …

@DW7 ~ I suspect that is because the change has only been made to the Android app at this point (as the version number in the thread below mentioning them is an Android version number). It is not on the iOS app or web version ~ yet. I would assume they will follow shortly.

I thought the new ranks were just forms of numeric levels (i.e. “Level 1”, “Level 2”, etc…) all based on point thresholds. Where does the term “Agent” come from ?

So I am. I think they try to find a solution to save the names. Somebody there didn’t realize people in general prefer names instead of numbers.

Looks to me rather similar to the chatbot and grammarbot features that we get on the iOS app - but, there, we’re referred to as “recruit” rather than “agent”.

The ‘bot’ features on the iOS app aren’t (currently) gamified in the same way as on the android app (no spaceships or suchlike). They’re really just straightforward dialogue exercises. I have to say that my experience of them, so far, has been a positive one.

@alanh ~ Thank you for the skinny on the term “Agent”. I don’t use any of the Memrise-created courses, so the term was unfamiliar to me. It makes sense now. Have a good day !
