What some of us are waiting for is happening. Some might even have contributed to the setting up and are stakeholders in it.
Soon we will have many sound resources to be added to the Memrise courses… Some valuable additions for B1/B2 even C1 courses.
After eight intensive months of planning, we were nearly ready; after
eight months of plotting the itinerary, recruiting the team, decking out
the bus… and becoming rather more intimate with the technicalities of
diesel engines than we’d have liked, the Membus was finally ready to hit
the road on its mission to travel around Europe, and create the world’s
first video dictionaries.
I really like the sample videos they showed for St Malo (because they are funny and now I’m struggling not to sing this song). I can’t wait to see more sample videos. This will probably lead to more people being interested in buying the Pro feature.
@dan.ger : It doesn’t seem like they announced it for St Malo, at least not on their blog. So I guess they won’t say anything for the next places…
@sircemloud : I don’t understand why they wrote “Languedoc”, actually. Does that mean that they didn’t settle on a specific town? Are they planning on moving a bit in Languedoc?
Have a great time on your tour! It is a fascinating project for sure! And I still hope you’re going to stop at Innsbruck which you must pass anyway on your way from Venice to Munich - a beautiful city worth seeing! I am sure you could get a lovely impression on Austrian German there as well! Who knows, maybe I’ll see the bus there!
They were (approaching) halfway to funding Finnish.
If more people had joined in, then we could have also had: Estonian; Latvian; Lithuanian; Polish; and Czech. They were also on the list of stretch goals. In fact Dutch onwards were all stretch goals.
Well the Kickstarter is over - I don’t think you can contribute now.
The bus has left Sweden, so even if you could raise the extra money externally, I think it would be too late to do anything about it now.
However, if you thought you could get 5K together, then you could try approaching them. This was one of the options in the Kickstarter - for 5K you could specify a language. They might be up for it. But do you know enough people willing to put in some money? The Kickstarter was great because they were offering good deals on Pro membership and the like. Without those sorts of incentives it will probably be quite difficult to raise the money.
On a brighter note… In response to a question about adding additional languages, the staff response was: “Yes, lots more to come!”
Yeah, I just received an email from Kickstarter that mentioned German was already available. Can’t see anything and checked the iOS App Store to see if there was a new version of the app for German videos - but nothing. Also wondering if we have to delete our downloaded German courses (haven’t tried this yet).
Edit: Tried re-downloading German 1 - but nothing changed.
Edit: 18th October - new iOS app released. Still no German. I don’t mind waiting, but Memrise shouldn’t announce things that aren’t there. [I am referring to Kickstart Project Update #16 dated 12th October]
Edit: For those who don’t get the Kickstarter emails, the same post is on their site
You can already enjoy them on French, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian and German courses. And the others are coming soon.
