Hi @Arete_Hime,

Good initiative and I hope it succeeds!

But how is your new topic [ Memrise NEWS, ANNOUNCEMENTS and UPDATES ] going to differ from the existing - and as yet unused - Memrise Announcements topic [ http://community.memrise.com/c/welcome/announcements ] that Olivia set up back in the Spring?

Maybe, if we can’t get Memrise to share important information on key developments affecting course creators and users, one answer might be to copy and paste in your new “announcements and updates” thread any relevant posts by Memrise Team Members’ from other topics - such as Ben’s intervention the other day - so that we have whatever useful information we can glean located in one place rather than scattered (and lost) amongst several topics.

Just a thought. Feel free to delete.

In an ideal world it would not (or only slightly) and perhaps in the future Memrise will post its updates there, as of now though it doesn’t so this is an alternative.

Without the topic:

  • (1) Something happens > (2) Memrise staff or users posts something about it > (3) Memrise decides to open a topic in Memrise Announcements about it

With the topic

  • (1) Something happens > (2) Memrise staff or users posts something about it > (3) Someone (Memrise staff or not) pastes the relevant info into the new topic

The (3) from the first scenario hasn’t happened yet. I think the (3) from the second scenario is much more likely to happen, giving this a much higher chance of success.

That is exactly how I envision it.

What about changes to official courses? For example: new courses (language combinations or parts) being released. Or Meet the Natves being enabled … as recently happened for German, Russian and Japanese.

Edit: Although perhaps it might be better to delegate out to other discussions that act as a source of announcements for particular subjects. For example: Perhaps the Meet the Natives announcements are best left in the The MemBus is off! discussion? All that might be needed is a link at the top directing users to that discussion.

@jimnicholson I think everyone has good ideas. Just do what you think is best. I’ll make the top post in that thread a wiki so anyone can edit it.

Wow, this whole announcement thing sure fizzled.

See my 3rd comment in the topic, and I don’t see it. Did anything happen that should have been posted in the topic?

I don’t know. That’s the problem. At some point the staff said they would try to communicate more in the future. Then nothing.
