Tap tests despite being disabled?

I can’t remember if tap tests is the right word, but these things

I definitely have tap tests turned off (I checked, and turning them on and off again didn’t change anything)

I don’t know if this is a bug or some kind of new feature, but I HATE it. It takes 5 times as long to select each letter as it does to just type it, and with a couple of hundred words to do a day, it’ll drive me round the bend.

Please help!

Yes, it is a new feature:

But you should still be able to type - you don’t have to use the presented letters.

Here’s the issue though: I’m being presented with Chinese characters which is a huge problem because I’m supposed to be recalling them. How do I turn this feature off?

Can you please advise?

I just want to second this - it would be hugely helpful to be able to turn these letters at the bottom off. For example:

  1. When I revise Geography-based courses, if I’m stuck and trying to think of the name, I can glance at the letters below and that often gives me a clue, which is undoing the point of the learning (in a real context I won’t have ‘hint letters’ underneath to help me)

  2. When revising Japanese words, as mentioned above, the characters for the answer appear below which can give away the answer. In some courses which allow you to type the romaji equivalent, the letters appear in Latin which is then a giveaway as the capital letters are a hint to what the answer begins with.

Does anyone know a way to switch these off? Would be much appreciated!

Better to post your concerns in this thread - I am also very unhappy about this new “feature”.
