Thank you to everyone who participated in the survey.
I’m surprised with the results, although we never can be sure on how accurate the results are.
Anyway, it shows that a lot of users (36%) don’t have a PRO membership, and 17% will not be willing to keep/activate it, if this is the only way to continue using the community courses with the Memrise app. That is not my case.
My conclusion is that there are a lot of different points of view, and also that there is not yet one system that fills the needs of every user, as each language/user is different, and economic possibilities are also different.
I’m sure that Memrise did a lot of study about this change, after all they have a lot of numbers to which we don’t have access, so as we don’t have all the facts, it’s not easy to judge.
I’ll accept the change, and consider this as an opportunity to maybe find something better, as usually…
For those that can pay to learn languages, and can stay connected (although offline mode is planned to the future), doing some research I found the amazing project Fluent Forever. I think their method is way ahead of Memrise or other methods to learn languages. I think their method is the LED light, compared with the Tungsten light that everybody was producing and using during years without questioning.
They got an amazing feedback on Kikstarter: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/gabrielwyner/fluent-forever-the-app-learn-to-think-in-any-langu
Here you have a great article about it: https://www.theverge.com/2017/10/18/16483958/kickstarter-fluent-forever-gabriel-wyner-interview-language-learning-app-most-funded-record
For those that can’t pay and really need offline mode right now, it seems that Anki is the most appreciated, and for Android users you also have Memorion that seems to be really nice: http://memorionsoft.blogspot.com
Good luck for all on your learning languages journey!
