why would they follow you?

That’s a question you could ask them, not the OP.

It’d be automated I think, just following people at random. They aren’t people, they’re a program designed to spam adverts. Depending on how new accounts are made(I cannot remember) a real person may or may not be needed to make the memrise account for them, but after that, it’s just an automated bot.

I just don’t get, how they would spam. Except this forum, there’s no chance to communicate to each other, is it?

yes, that’s what i was thinking too
maybe those spammers are just too much on automatic pilot to notice it’s no use following you here
or maybe it’s memrise itself to see how people are using the service

I just wanted to start a topic about this.
I have 3 profiles following me. In the bio section they have a link to hot girls.

so, they follow people because they hope you follow them back
so, if they follow you, it’s not because they want to spam you, they’re actually spamming memrise

annoying people they are

the first 3 are all deleted by now

THAT’S WHAT THEY USE THOSE FAKE COURSES FOR!
To get points to give the impression they’re real members!

Maybe Memrise should make it more difficult to create and open access (too easy verify / check / confirmation procedures?) to new user accounts?

“we” used to have spammers in the old fora, every now and then they literally plastered everything
i think in here was also possible

I noticed these ones too

Even if they are spamming memrise, they are advertising bad websites, that anyone (even children) could open
and to think that I recently sent a link of a multiplication course to my nephews
(sigh):pensive:
