I’m having the same problem in my Spanish (Mexico) Course 1. Have you had any help with this yet?

It happened to me too. During lessons the audio simply disappears, making it impossible to continue. Two days already this way.

Hi all, moving this to the Web Bugs section.

Sorry to hear you’re experiencing this. Could you specify the following information for me please:

  • Which device are you using?
  • Which browser are you using?
  • Are you on our new Beta experience? (you can see this in your settings. Is ‘Beta’ at the bottom ticked for you?)
  • Is this only happening on Listening Skills or other modes too?

I look forward to your response.

Best,
A.

The problem may be related to the new version of Chrome (92) and a limit on the number of audio and video tags that can be allocated in a particular tab:

Blocked attempt to create a WebMediaPlayer as there are too many WebMediaPlayers already in existence (stackoverflow.com)

After a few minutes of learning, it stops playing the sound, quitting the exercise, and coming back restores the sound, but it’s hard to finish longer exercises.

Hi all,

As rightly mentioned by @piotrjaskulski, this is indeed a result of the latest Google Chrome update, which limits the number of audio handlers in a tab. Chrome have advised that they will be increasing the limit from 3rd August so users should not experience any issues from then. In the meantime, Memrise has implemented a fix which should see you experiencing the error less often.

Hope this helps and thanks for your patience :slightly_smiling_face:

Thank you so much, i hope it’ll be fine.

I’m having the same issue with the Brave browser and with Safari. Will this fix help me?

Device: laptop (MacBook Air)
Browser: Chrome, updated
Beta: yes
Mode: encountering it during Learn New Words; haven’t progressed further

Other info in case it’s useful:

  • I have tried reloading the page; it’s not a “too many media players” problem (though I had that before)

  • I’m just starting the European Portuguese Level 5 course

  • From Chrome’s dev console, these might be relevant, and appear when I load the page:

Clicking on the speaker button to try to hear the missing thing does nothing, not even in the console.

I’m also having the same problem in Safari and Firefox browsers. It works for a few words and then the sound stops working.
With the exercise “Choose the translation for what you hear” when clicking on the sound symbol, there is no sound, which makes it unusable.
Hope there will be a fix soon!

Hi, this is also an issue with Firefox on Windows 10 with Beta enabled. Listening skills can’t be done, and words aren’t repeating themselves after finishing a question.

I also have the same problem with beta enabled with Firefox on PC(Windows10 64bit).
In the “choose the translation” questions, clicking the sound symbol, no sounds are heard.
