  2. select a level with new (unlearned) words
  3. tap “learn new words”
  4. finish exercise
  5. tap “learn new words”

I can confirm it, the same thing happens to me too.

The same thing happens on the website version, therefore I would expect it to be a feature.

I just tested this on web and Android.

I went to a course where I have learned some things out of order, and went to a level which I have partly learned but still have more new items in. On this course there are other levels, earlier than this level, where I also have more new items to learn.

On both web and Android, when I choose to learn new items while I’m on this level, I get new items from the level I was looking at.

Tried it with another level way near the end of the course, on Android, and again, it started learning with the next new items from the level I was just looking at.

Correct, but after you finish learning that level, and then you continue to next session (on the ‘finish screen’), the next session will load from different level.

Yes. That doesn’t seem like a bug, that seems like how it should work and I think always has. When you finish learning everything from a level you were learning, and you choose to learn more, it should go on to some other level.

I’ve tentatively moved this to Memrise How To’s.

But it doesn’t happen only when you finish the level. I tried it again this morning:

I select a level to learn from. Select Learn new words, go through a session that teaches me a few words. The level is far from complete.

Now I am at the overview screen that shows the learned words and, at the bottom, a button to continue. If that button is green, I can tap it and continue my learning session in the same level. That’s the correct behaviour. But if the app suggests another activity (e.g. there are words for review and the button is blue), I tap the button with four dots to go to that screen where I can select the type of session. And if I tap the green button there, it takes me to an earlier unfinished level.

This seems like a bug to me, too.

To be clear, here’s the issue:
Level 1 has some unlearned words, but you want to learn some words from level 2.
You go to level 2 which has, say, 20 unlearned words.
You do a learning session in level 2 and learn 10 words, so there’s still 10 left in level 2 that aren’t learned.
Now, you hit “learn new words”, but the words that you learn are now from level 1, not level 2.

I think I normally run into this issue when I’m learning words from, for example, level 2, but some of the words end up only being partially planted and I want to finish planting them. In that case, if there’s, say, 10 unlearned words in level 2 and I fully plant 8 and partially plant 2, when I again hit the button to learn new words, it’s because I want to finish fully planting the words in level 2, but what happens instead is that Memrise has me learn new words from level 1.

@Arete_Hime, IMHO, I think this would be better off in the bug report section, so that the Memrise team could say whether they consider this to be a bug or not.

Ahh, now the bug description is clearer, and more detailed. But the thread has gotten long and muddied enough that putting it back in the bug report section might be confusing to whoever from memrise looks at it.

How about starting a new bug report, with the new more detailed description, so it’ll be more obvious to whoever looks at it, and they won’t get confused in the same way we did here?
