New design

I’ve just found this thread here What IS it? New design happened too fast

Someone might have already mentioned that, but is it possible to bring back colors for the web version, for number of reviews (blue, like it used to be), in particular? It was really convenient to see what you need to review at a glance. Now it looks the same as difficult words and it takes extra time to process. Colors just work much better in this case.

Ok no matter how long one looks, it is just obviously a really bad design solution.
If you want to make things simple they have to look clean and neat.

Hi,

I agree with some of you (haven’t read most of the thread though). And for the first time in my life when I arrived on the page I started to look a way to express my disappointment straight away. So here we go. I found this forum. And wanted to admit that it’s really one of the worst examples of ‘re-branding’ whatsoever. Has lost all of the nice features, it’s not intuitive anymore. Sure, there were some minor issues, like the freezing while switching between courses, but really insignificant. But what’s happening now… it’s a mess… and it’s not that people need time to get used to. It’s just bad. Someone should’ve studied all these UX/UI a bit longer than he did if so… because using trendy icons isn’t everything.

Sadly, I suspect somebody thought having those stars embedded in misshapen blobs actually looked “good”. Though you have to wonder what drugs they were taking at the time.

It looks like it was drawn by a toddler

I wish they could show your streak even on finished courses when in the list

When I click on an actual course - not just the dashboard - I get all the usual colours and NO BLOBS, just regular shapes, like circles and squares and rectangles. It looks like this:

So they haven’t lost the colour-coded format on the memrise web version, it seems, and it is almost identical on the decks web version, just the colours there are slightly more muted.

Well I understood half of it and I’m not even studying Norwegian. I might though if it’s that easy. :grinning:

You understood half of what exactly???

The phrase you commented on. It was a joke. Forget it.

Norsk likner veldig ofte på Engelsk.

Bet you understood even more of that sentence. For English speakers, Norwegian is pretty easy, go ahead.

There’s not enough contrast in the dashboard page. As a arts and design student, I really struggle to look at this… I kind of need Memrise to survive so I’m willing to push for improvements. Here are somethings I noticed that make the current design infuriating, as well as things that made the old design work. Please try fixing! I’ll post some examples later.

I’m so triggered xD It might not be a problem if the contrast wasn’t so bullshit though

(note: im not a memrise staff im just triggered as heck)
Here’s a dark theme for you. I’ll appreciate any thoughts so I can try implementing. Right now I’m working on really major changes. Particularly with the light blue assets because it seems really… random. Idk. I really hope the memrise peeps see our feedback :

I have to say the same as lots of people before me. The design is really bad in my eyes. It hurts to look at the white and yellow in the evening/night and that’s the time when I’m learning. So I really hope for a change or I’ll have to quit and cancel my subscription.
And it looks really lifeless and not encouraging ! The Yellow makes me think I choose the wrong app because it looks nothing like a learning app, the colour is too harsh .

Whoa, no need to be so insulting to toddlers! I bet your blob drawing skills weren’t that great at 2 either.

If you can change the colour of the blob around the username/level to white (without stuffing up other places it’s used), I could live with that, good work.

Seen like that, I don’t mind that top panel - the Memrise new logo is a bit 70s/cartoonish but not objectionable. The white text against the navy background looks good. It’s the other stuff you get on the dashboard that takes it into toddler’s nightmare territory.

I meant the dashboard. I don’t have colors in the dashboard. Well, I have, but it’s all gray, and I really miss my blue reviews.

I’ve stopped trying to see it. It is soooo annoying.
