Memrise website and apps are down [ Edit: Fixed! ] (and Closed )

Streaks are not updating, at least for me.

I must have done yesterday’s two courses that I study before the problem began.

Here is what it appears like to me: I use an ipad (ios 10) to do the coursework, and a PC (win 7) to figure out what I’ve done (usually):

Before I did the courses this morning, I had these results on the website(PC):
span 5: 342/417: 33 streak. Mon to be filled in as completed.
After I did the spanish course:
span 5: 342/417: 34 streak. Mon was now filled in.

So: All that’s missing are the individual words completed and only on the website (PC).

Recap: What worked for me are the streaks & the days completed line. Seems like you’re getting close::

I’ll try arabic now and update:
Before I did the arabic course:
read arabic: 428/498: 56 streak: Mon not filled in -
After I did the arabic course:
read arabic: 428/498: 57 streak. Mon was now filled in. - so streak & day indicator are correct for that course as well.

note: What seems to be the case also is that it takes a little less (50%) of my normal daily time to get a “goal complete” indication from the web site.

Many thanks.

Update 1:: The iPad does appear to have either some local cache/recall because when I go back to the course, it can figure out what I’ve done.
Update 2:: Last thing I notice is on the website at ./home. It doesn’t show the correct order of the courses I’m working on. I did spanish, then arabic, and arabic is 2nd, spanish is 1rst in the list.

I finished one 45-minute course but it was the same questions and the number to be reviewed is not going down. Hope it will be fixed soon.

Someone changed the banner, now it says “UPDATE: Site and apps are back up.” Meanwhile, the web version is still badly out of order … I can only pray that the problem won’t turn out as unsolvable as all those hyphen and comma issues. Otherwise I would have to quit which would upset me a lot honestly

Not working for me yet …

My learning home page now says this:

Update:
The apps and site should be running close to normal again,
however, the learning progress saving and syncing is not yet fully
recovered for web.
We are working on resolving this ASAP. Apologies for the
inconvenience.

I had raised this issue (below) this morning as I hadn’t been aware of the bigger problem and this thread (website down) did not appear when searching or creating my thread about the course issue.

Not recording score on a course and same questions reappear

I wonder if we will be receiving a roll-back to right before the servers went down and all these errors occurred. Would be tremendously helpful, as I wasn’t able to review all day yesterday, and, like I said before, catching-up with what amounts to almost 1000 words today is not ideal.

Seconding this. Really poor management.

Well, we were told:

So, I guess, report what you had. But can’t Memrise see what streaks we had through the app, where they didn’t vanish?

Are they only fixing streaks or what? I’d like to pretend I’m back to November 6th at XX time before server went down.

I have just done all my courses on the android app and all of them have updated as normal on app (streaks and points).
The streaks and points have also updated on the web , however the web still shows the same words are due for review while the app correctly shows the words as reviewed.

The first course I tried via the Android app told me goal complete, 1 day streak, even though it was a 590 day streak, but on checking it afterwards it had preserved the whole streak. also it presented a number of items for learning (as in, just showing the full entry incl. translation) that I’d learned long ago.

Have a problem with a completed course. After editing it and adding new level and words, the word counter remains unchanged and the course is still completed (both mobile and web versions). On web version I am able to run learning session, but mobile one remains unchanged (new levels are not visible).

Piggybacking on this thread to let you know that I am unable to ignore words in the courses I am learning. Assume you are working on a fix, but if not, please do. Thank you!

Not are saved mark "ignore"
I was not interested in a mobile version.
When will the work site?

@Lien, @knarusk, we’ve been patient for a day. Can you give an update? I’m seeing my review count rising steadily while I had been hoping today to lower it. I really hope it is fixed tomorrow or very very soon.

@Lien

I agree, the update provided is actually making the issue worse

“Update: The apps and site should be running close to normal again, however, the learning progress saving and syncing is not yet fully recovered for web. We are working on resolving this ASAP. Apologies for the inconvenience.”

The site is running close to normal?! Why would you say this? In fact it’s totally useless… Not yet fully recovered? In what way is it recovered at all?

Why present a falsely rosy situation in a statement? Pretty much suggests you don’t see the situation as critical - which it is!

Evening all, here is the latest update about the site and the apps:

  1. We are still working on getting the progress for learning and reviewing session to sync properly. We have 2 parallel systems running in the background, one that got affected and a new one that is serving most of the requests from users. The work is in progress to sync the affected and the new system, hence the progress not counting the learning activities as total from both for now.

  2. Getting the full learning and reviewing progress to sync between the affected and the new system is the immediate goal. It depends on certain hardware processes, but we are aiming to complete this later tonight.

  3. The mobile apps deal with the progress saving independently. The syncing between mobile apps and the website does not work as of yet, but the progress on mobile only should be fine. We are investigating the mobile specifics issues separately as they should not be related to the problems with the site.

  4. Unfortunately there are physical limitations for how long recovery and failover processes take and with the amount of data it takes a while, even when running things in parallel. The full team is on resolving this unfortunate issue and working on solutions to recover as much progress for everyone as possible, including streaks. We are tackling problems one after another and streak recovery will be among the next.

Again, on behalf of the whole team, we apologise greatly for this very unfortunate sequence of events and do all our best to resolve it fully.
