Memrise hid the mems, perhaps because someone found a bug that allowed them to edit other people's mems - did you see examples of that?

I never noticed any cases of this myself, but I was reminded of this topic from February when I read that.

I assumed at the time though that it was just a brief glitch that showed options to users who weren’t supposed to see them, and it just returned an error if you tried to alter someone else’s mem.

It’s possible the two are completely unrelated, if indeed such a thing was going on recently, as I hadn’t heard anything else on it until just today. I thought I’d point it out though.

Nope. I haven’t experienced anything like that.

I cannot say anything about this particular bug, but it has ocurred to me, that the present destruction of the mem system may be connected with the whole bunch of bugs around the mems (mems are not properly seen in the app, mems created in the app cannot be edited…). Perhaps it is all too difficult to fix, and elimination seems a better decision right now.

I have found that I was periodically able to do things with mems as I went through a course, but that this was just sporadic and only lasted for maybe two or three words in succession and then disappeared again.

I guess this must have been a bug of some kind?

I use the web version on a Chromebook.

I am quite sure it was a hoax, or a single user who could not believe her/his eyes once… We would have had some complaints in the forum of the sort “I never did such mem, I don’t understand etc”.

I strongly suspect the “update” has to do with saving resources and that’s all. They decided to stick with a “mit einer stinknormalen” /plain ordinary phone-app, and mems are not so popular among app users. Fits into the general policy as announced previously.

For those of us hoping that memrise would ever revert some of its “updates”, it is highest time to complete/finish learning most important courses in here and move on (like many former learning companions did)

If you’re able to reproduce this bug, please do let me know.

Apart from staff, users are unable to edit other users mems.

I can’t see an edit button.

Hey, I’ll be closing this thread as someone was able to reproduce this problem in a different thread.
