Learning / planting session order is broken!

Sorry for the confusion.
This is a bug that somehow made it’s way into the wild.

The most recent release should fix all these issues.
If you’re still having problems with the new algorithm, please let us know.

Yeah, everything is working again ^^ thanks

Works fine now, thank you.

“regular” status, no"admin"… there are more than 150 regulars in here, probably

I think some of the elements of the bug haven’t been fixed.

My settings are set to learn 5 words a session, so the way it was before the bug is that 6 views per word, 30 views in total, 20 points per correct word, you get a bonus of 600 points for getting 100% accuracy.

Right now (as was the case this morning when the rest of the bug was happening) it is only showing me 4 words per learning session, so you only get 480 points for viewing 4 words 6 times correctly, 24 times in total.

Can someone copy in an admin as afraid I don’t know how. Cheers!

Are you also only being shown 4 words a session (or one less than your usual amount?) It means far fewer points, as well as being too easy/ boring? Or was that a problem for you early but it’s better now? Still not working properly for me…

@BeaTrisy Should investigate your problem report, but I assume that their London office is now closed for the evening, so you probably won’t get an answer until tomorrow at the earliest.

But how can a ‘regular’ status user edit another user’s post? I don’t have that ability.

I’m just interested because that seems like a very strange system-level entitlement feature unless I’m missing something or misunderstanding a term.

Thanks for copying her in. Yes that’s fair enough, based in the UK myself, just thought it was worth bringing it up while it’s fresh and other people have recently been active. So no-one else is having that problem? It affecting all the different courses I’ve done new word learning sessions on throughout today, both before and after bug fix was announced, so assume it’s part of the same bug.

For whatever it’s worth, I just tried it and did a learning session on the web, set to 10 words per session, and it showed me all 10 words during the session. So it looks like I’m not experiencing the bug that you’re seeing.

Ok, thanks for checking. Possibly it’s only affecting the five word per session setting. But let’s wait and see what Memrise think tomorrow.

I don’t think I can edit posts - I never tried. Indeed, a “leader” did correct my horrible grammar once or twice, a leader can do absolutely everything possible in here, including changing a message - but I am not a “leader”, and I am not sorry for that . Also, I don’t think I’ll try any time soon  (i.e. to edit the body of a message)

I can change headers, in what category they are, this kind of small stuff - check for a small pen next to the title of a/your thread?

edit: i just tried to modify/delete an old message of mine, two months old that one. To no avail - therefore, I believe I cannot change the body of a msg.

Thanks for the reply. It’s still strange that you were able to edit my post. The entitlement logic seems odd to me. For example, I can’t edit any of your posts or headers on threads you created. How were you able to edit mine?

Your (and also my) trust level is not high enough to get the ability to rename topics. You have to earn trust level 3 regular for this forum to be able to do that. Which means you have to hang out on this forum a lot and also keep on doing that.

Yeah, I can edit other users’ thread titles, but I can’t edit the bodies of their texts.

Ah, thanks for the explanation. Much appreciated!

Hey @BeaTrisy , could you elaborate on the algorithm a bit? I’ve noticed I’ve been ignored so maybe the exact timetable is something that is being guarded? That does make sense I suppose, but maybe staff could open a thread explaining ideas and new changes before implementing them?

I’m not sure if the app is different than the website now, but when I tried the app a while ago, the words I learned on it where much less solid in my memory versus the website. I know that the staff’s focus direction has split in the past year towards one, the app gamified experience, and two, towards the website more “hardcore” flashcard usage, but the algorithm on the website is very important to those of us who use it.

I at the moment rely on memrise for its function because I don’t want to put in a week’s work of learning more customization-friendly software and setting up my decks, so it would be really cool to know what’s going on with the algorithm presently and in what is envisioned for the future. It would definitely be preferable to know changes are coming vs. realizing it a month later when certain words are not cemented in my memory as well.
A lot of people would likely be willing to help with any experiments in that direction as well. Another dev mentioned that an “adjusting” algorithm might be in the works that learns off of progress, but something that comes to my mind, for instance, is how could such an algorithm be feasible when we aren’t able to do something like “ignore” an incorrect mark because of a typo or finger slip?

One more thing I want to mention is that there’s certain functionality that is being skipped over that could be addressed first before certain visual changes. You’ve seen the Ziggy feedback, but look at where users can pick the # of reviewed words in increments of 5. I’m guessing this was originally created to be able to lend the nicknames of “super learner!” or whatever titles are given for adjustments, but in light of the fact that management decided to put this Ziggy character forefront and ignore rankings, couldn’t the “superlearner” importance be erased and instead the ability to adjust intended words reviewed/learned in increments of 1?

Thanks for all your help in addressing the recent bugs!

Just to let those coming here to see if it’s been fixed yet, yes it has. The learning / planting session order is back to normal.

If you click on a user’s name, you can see what their privileges are. You are a “Member” have “Trust Level 2”. Hydroptere and 132 others are at “Trust Level 3”. There are formulas that came with the forum software that set these levels based on getting and giving likes and spending a certain number of hours in the forums, etc.

i repeat, i did not edit your post, i edited the header of the post. I am sorry of this bothers you seemingly for days. Can you please tell the me original title, so i make it back? have otherwise a nice evening.
