Terrible issue discovered today. Generally I only review my old items. From time to time I add new ones by bulk mode.
Today I added next dozens items and when I tried to learn a few I can see “Learn new words: 1”
And I can learn new items only one by one - one item with 6 repetitions and learning ends. And again next word…
How to fix it? I have set 20 new items in my setting. And it was OK a few weeks ago 
I have 1052 items in 16 levels - it’s my own private course.
Try to remove and add the words again, this way the words with errors will be refreshed with words without? I’m trying to sound logical but I don’t know if I succeeded 
It definitely shouldnt make it review 1 word at a time as it only goes down to 5. This is most irregular. hopefully @BeaTrisy can stop this and your course can go running as usual. Has this ever happened before? And what Browser are you using?
That is odd! I suppose they are all the same level right? I noticed you can’t learn ‘across’ levels. I.e. if 10 levels have each 1 new word, it will learn only all the words of one level (usually the lowest), which is one in this case.
Would you mind sharing the link? Perhaps then I can try it from my end and see what happens… (if I can find the time). Also, perhaps you could indicate which of the words in the course are new.

Each level has about 60 items.
@MarshallLanguages I use Vivaldi (Chromium) but when I try to use Memrise and “Learn new words” on my IPhone (the newest Memrise version) I have “There is nothing to learn in this game mode. Please try a different one”. But I use mobile versione very rarely.
I’ve also checked Safari (OSX) - the same problem with 1item per new words session 
@BeaTrisy - are you able to help with the issue? I realy like my own course and I have (partial) copy but I spent so many time on working and editing this course
Sorry, which course is it exactly? Cannot find it, but maybe am overlooking it.
I have studied your course on the web and learned four words. I offered me 10 words to learn (I ignored one 6 times to speed it up a bit). Then I did a review, also on the web, and it presented me with all the four words. So it is not something tied to your course, or at least not for all situations.
You have set it to 20. I have never had it set to 20. What if you set it to 5, 10 or 15? Do you still have the same problem?
I have looked through the database and the levels briefly in edit mode, and didn’t see anything strange. Doesn’t look to me that it has anything to do with your course design or whatever. There is a difference between me and you though, and that is that I am learning the first four words, while you are probably learning the last level. Which reminds me: those last words in the last level, they don’t appear anywhere in another level, do they?
I’ve changed goals for review and for new items - still only one item per “Learn new words” session 
Who should I ask from Memrise team for help? Anotker courses behave properly - eg. 5 items per session according to my settings. I can have some duplicates in new levels but I also had some before and remove it. But for me it seems to be Memrise bug - I can’t see nothing special in my course…
The issue seems to be related to: VM687: Whoops. Could not load the session. Sorry
One element had empty Answer part and… something wrong occured. Now after fixing Whoops issue it works properly. But in my opinion Memrise should inform user more precisely what happened not just “whooops”…
