Hi, I have just started Memrise. After one course, i got a mail, saying that I am top 10 in the leaderboard.
I would like to get an answer from a mod og dev maybe.
This is the mail I got:
But whatâs the problem?
500 learners definitely isnât the whole of Memrise. I expect (athough it isnât clear there) that it actually means top 10 for the specific course youâre taking.
The problem is that how can I be on the top 10 only after taking one course.
It could be that, but it didnât say that. I also got a discount for pro version.
You are in top 10 weekly in the course you are taking.
I just checked.
This is a top 10 for this week, so starting on monday. Since today is only tuesday, this doesnât seem too difficult to achieve.
As @widle said, itâs probably only for the top 10 of the course youâre taking. There is probably also another condition, like âthis course needs to have at least 500 learnersâ, according to the e-mail. I started receiving the same kind of e-mail every week after I chose to study an old course for french native speakers with a lot of learners but not so many active people in it. You shouldnât worry too much about that.
Thx
You can get this message pretty much weekly, if it annoys you a bit then itâs a good idea to click âunsubscribeâ (unless you want to claim the discount of course).
I got this email today as well, but Iâve never gotten it before, so it seems new.
Iâm taking lots of courses. Iâm in the weekly top 10 for several of them nearly every week. Iâm in the monthly top 10 for several of them nearly every month. Iâm in the all time top 10 for several courses as well. So if this were an email you get whenever youâre in the weekly or monthly top 10 for any course youâre taking, I shouldâve been receiving piles and piles of these emails by now, but I donât remember every getting one before today. And the email doesnât mention any specific course.
Iâm not annoyed by the email, just curious. Something is new. But the email is too vague to figure out what.
It mentions 500 learners, so it probably does not get sent for less popular courses. Have you reached the top 10 in a popular one before?
I got an automated email from memrise today that says âCongratulations! You have reached the Top 10 on Memrise Leaderboardsâ, which made me curious to see what this leaderboard is. I know thereâs a leaderboard for each course, and I know I can view one of all the people I follow, but this email seems to be talking about something global to the whole site. Is there such a thing? Where?
Probably just bad wording, if itâs the same as here:
Oh, thanks, I actually remember seeing that a long time ago, but forgot about it. But that canât be what this email is about, because Iâm not in the top 10 for week, month, or all time on that.
Iâm not sure what specifically triggers the email you got. I recall seeing several posts on the old forum asking about it and, I seem to remember several people saying they also got an invitation to sign up for Memrise Pro at a reduced rate in tandem.
I think itâs just a bit of Memrise âencouragement/marketingâ.
This is confusing. Did someone merge two different comment threads into one? If so, would you please un-merge them to make this sequence of comments less confusing? Please? Merging different discussions will-nilly causes confusion and frustration. Better to have them link to each other than merge them.
@widle - Iâll respond once these two threads are un-merged, or if they canât be un-merged, Iâll start a new post.
that general leaderborad is crap, sorry, everytime when i make the mistake looking over it, i see some cheatersâŚ
Yes, it was me. It wasnât my intention to cause distress or confusion, only to avoid having two different threads in two different categories dealing with the same issue.
I realise that merging (which automatically closes one thread) without explanation is probably not the best way to go. In future, Iâll post to let people know whatâs happening.
