I’ve worked through all the German language levels from 1 to 6, and I am now working in German 7. One of the things I liked best about the previous levels is that Memrise (web browser) really challenged me, forcing me to actually type my responses into a text box - no hints, few multiple choice questions, few click-and-select-the-words. German 7 seems less challenging. I am hardly ever challenged to actually type the answer, especially on longer phrases or sentences. Instead, I am offered the “convenience” of selecting the answer from a multiple choice list or clicking on words. Just a suggestion: challenge me! Force me to dig into my brain and type out the answer with less help.

I think you may have been off line for a while. Memrise in their infinite wisdom changed this about last January. All memrise courses on the web are now dumbed-down to the same level as the app. You will not be asked to type more that 15 characters. Most people agree with you about the lack of challenge. But Memrise are deaf to all appeals. You can install a javascript to force typing if you run on a PC. It’s fairly straightforward. Do a search for ‘Memrise All Typing’.

Thanks, Mishamus. Now I understand. Of course the BEST solution would be for Memrise to offer this as a configuration option on my user account and/or a training course option. Allow me to determine how hard I want to make it for myself. Hope they’re listening…
