Do you guys still make and use mems?

Hey guys! Do you still use mems? For some reason, I can remember words by just imagining pictures in my mind and also looking up the words in wiktionary.

And yeah. Do you guys make mems for every word you learn? :'D It’s really quite tedious.

I still make mems for fun and to help me learn a word but it’s not that often.
I know what the words are even without mems and I also don’t make them for every word I use :slightly_smiling_face:

Often there are Mems available that someone else has made - often several choices (in different languages too!).

Yes, I use mems religiously, because I can’t “imagine pictures” for Chinese characters in my mind :’)
I really thought this was a satirical post at first

ABSOLUTELY.
I make mems for almost every word I learn, specially the ones in the courses I created.

I feel really really angry at Memrise for announcing they are going to take them out, when they could simply make them optional for those who hate them. I spent over a 100 hours making mine, getting images and sentences… I am so disappointed :frowning:

I am even considering stopping using Memrise, I am a very visual student and I need them!

I look up most words on Reverso to make sure I understand them in context, and often add a phrase mem for other users and as a reminder for myself. At one time, you could review your mems after a practice session, and I always did that.
On sentence/phrase courses, I add a note to help new users understand concepts without going into full grammar lessons (such as in French, why “qui” doesn’t always mean “who” and how to know which to use).

I created mems at the beginning of learning Hungarian. I did it only for a few words, difficult to remember. In 2018 stopped using it.

Now I create my individual mems and upload them as jpg-files.
In addition, I upload further information (links to websites, related words, comments, etc.) as text.

The above image appears when I learn a new word, don’t remember a word, or make a mistake.

it is really sad that the mems are not there anymore. This is the main reason that I use Memrize. I spend 100 hours to create my mems. they are still there in my profile however not connected to the course anymore.
Please bring back this feature as soon as possible

I always look at the mems created by the others. It often helps me to remember. Sometimes I create my own. For me Memrise is a good community where people share their way to memorize complicated staff. Without mems it will not be the same :frowning:
