[Course Forum] Spanish 1 to 7 by Memrise

Hi @angileptol,

Thanks. I must have missed the Twitter announcement and can’t see one in the timeline for the last 12 months.

I will be giving the new courses a try and look forward to seeing the new videos.

Feliz Navidad y feliz año nuevo! :evergreen_tree:

A few things I have noticed.

Some answers in Spanish 1 require 2 spaces before the ellipsis (and it won’t be accepted with one space), e.g. I think one is ‘¿teneís … ?’.

In Spanish 2, I think I saw incorrect spellings for ‘eigthy’ and ‘girlfirend’.

Seems like the 6th Spanish course (Norwegian to Spanish) is missing?

Hi @Vikestart,

I had a look and the course appeared indeed “unpublished”, we have now fixed the issue so you should be able to find it.

Happy learning!

Hola, Ángela.

¿Estás segura que la traducción de esa frase es correcta? A mi me parece que no.

Frase: en todas las casas cuecen habas. Traducción: it’s the same all over the world.

Nivel 1 para los hablantes de inglés.

Hola @Hombre_sin_nombre,

En inglés no existe un equivalente exacto para esa frase hecha, pero la traducción es la que más se aproxima al significado.

Saludos,

Ángela

New pro user here. At what point will I be able to use the grammar bot on a desktop? I’m currently on Spanish (American English) 1, Level 5.

@angileptol can you take a look at my question above? Thanks!

@angileptol There is an error in the Spanish 3 for Norwegian speakers course, level 5.

The norwegian translation uses the indefinite form, while the spanish glossary has the definite form. This leads to confusion and often an “incorrect” answer.

As seen in the picture below, I wrote “un momento” because that’s the actual correct translation of “et øyeblikk” (a moment) to Spanish. For “el momento” to be the correct translation, the Norwegian counterpart would have to be “øyeblikket” (the moment).

Hi @puppydog85,

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you. Grammar bots are not available for new users, grammar mode is, for some courses, on iOS and Android. I hope I have answered your question.

Kind regards,

Ángela

Please take some action against this. It matters to me. It’s too much confusing to identify the difference between these three words
Here
Over There
There

Hello,
Same here. It seems that the audio files for alli and ahi are mixed and gets me confused. Where alli it is (for my ears) the longer pronounced i from ahi, the exercises have the both audio played.

Thanks

Hi. You’d better address this question to Ángela @angileptol, but I can tell you in my own words.

Dimension in Spanish is more complicated than in English and other languages. As you can see, instead of simply “here” and “there” it’s “here”, “there” and “over there”. Moreover, this dimensional structure depends on who speaks: it could be aquí for you, but allí for me. If you open a Spanish textbook you will find a whole chapter dedicated to this subject.

Hi @dormammu19,

Thanks for your feedback. I have moved your post into the existing Spanish 1-7 by Memrise thread. I have curated the distractors so that it is not so easy to confuse the 3 adverbs. Basically, aquí means just here, then there’s a nuance of meaning between ahí (“there”, the object is closer to the speaker) and allí (“over there”, the object is close to the listener, farther from the speaker than ahí). Does this make sense?

@delogare53

I have checked the audio files and they are all correct, although I can understand how they can sound similar. Ahí would sound “a.ˈi”, whereas allí has a “j” sound, so it’d sound “a.ˈʝi”. Try listening carefully!

I hope this helped.

Best regards and happy learning!

Ángela

Hi @Vikestart,

We’re looking into this, bear with us. Thanks.

Hi,

I don’t whether this is the right place to open this thread but I encountered a big mistake. I’m taking Spanish 6 course. There is a problem I encountered. The words encender and apagar are taught “to turn off” and “to turn on” respectively, which should be vice versa. I wanted to report it so that the false learnings can be prevented.

@Atikker It’s Spain Spanish

Hi! I am a Memrise Pro member and was looking to access the ‘grammarbot’ and ‘chatbot’ for Spanish (Spain) 1 but they are both greyed out on the website, is there a known reason for this or am I missing something I should have done to access them?

¡Gracias!
