Thank you.
There is a spelling mistake in Norwegian 5 - Exploration.
It is given as âet vandrehjemâ. The correct spelling should be âet vandrerhjemâ (the second ârâ should be added)
In Norwegian 3, section 12, the noun âei klokkeâ is used, but the audio is âen klokkeâ. The earlier phrases for telling time consistently treated it as masc/common gender instead of feminine.
Please explain the following:-
âhele livet har jeg ønsket ĂĽ bli en berømt forfatterâ meaning
âI wished to become a famous writer my whole lifeâ
and:
âjeg drømte alltid om ĂĽ bli profesjonell golfspillerâ meaning
âI always dreamed of becoming a professional golf playerâ
Why does one sentence contain the indefinite article âenâ and the other not, when they both describe careers?
I donât think thereâs a rule about careers in particular. But the way I interpret the sentences, âberømtâ describes what kind of âforfatterâ, while âprofesjonell golfspillerâ is in itself is a work title (sort of).
But I wouldnât bother too much about this.
Thank you all so much for flagging these issues.
Weâre very sorry we did not have the right resources to answer your questions in the past. We are changing this and we are now in the process of fixing these errors.
To chip in this conversation, our Linguist has sent in the following comment.
The first one requires the indefinite article, the second one not. But the second can also be written with an indefinite article. The rule is that the article is used when itâs about âone case/sampleâ, the naked form is when it more general. So âen berømt forfatterâ is more specific than âfotballspillerâ
On top on this, we have added âjeg drømte alltid om ĂĽ bli en profesjonell golfspillerâ as an alternative acceptable answer so that you wonât be marked wrong for this either.
