SGJL 01 Level 4, audio for つぎ sounds like つり. Is it supposed to sound like that?
How does a forum thread have 16K views, but not a single participant willing to answer a simple question about pronunciation?
I’ve been watching this page because i’m interested in starting this course soon. But I haven’t begun it at all, so I don’t know what the audio is actually sounding like for that word, nor if that word can only mean next or has more meanings. But next, つぎ, does not have the リ sound. Here’s how it’s supposed to sound like:

Hey, just wondering but I just started doing SGJL 3 Remembering the kanji and it only shows the English interpretation. Shouldn’t we be learning the japanese word for each kanji as well or else it’ll be harder being able to read it later on?
You learn the kanji in English first so it’s easier to use kanji to help learn Japanese vocabulary in the following courses. Divide and conquer.
Okay, thank you for responding so quickly! I also wanted to ask if we would be able to coherently read and make sentences just from following the outline and doing the grammar portions. The only other material im using other than your guide is wanikani.
The idea is to be literate and fluent with regards to reading and listening to native Japanese material. After that, the idea morphs into reading and listening to A LOT of native Japanese material. You won’t write as well as you read and you won’t speak as well as you can listen, but you will be able to write and speak to a certain extent. It’s hard to train and correct mistakes to writing and speaking without using a tutor or something like Lang8 and iTalki.
By the time you finish just the basic course, you should be able to follow along with a Japanese TV show that has Japanese subtitles.

Okay and do you reccommend I practice writing down the kanji with proper stroke order as I go through it? I’m a 4th through SGJL 3 but I’ve only been practicing through the program’s questions.
I usually recommend writing down the kanji as they come up. Unfortunately, there’s no way to figure if you got the stroke order 100% correct without a plug-in but there might be one that exists. At a minimum, try to picture the correct kanji in your head before searching for it among the choices.
If you have ios, there’s this app you can download called imiwa?. It’s a Japanese dictionary and there’s a kanji section that shows an animation of the stroke order for all kanji.
I’m not sure if it’s available on android though.
Thanks for pointing that out. They dont have that dictionary for android but i found a couple of others that show stroke order.
I also wanted to mention that instead of using memrise for kanji ive been using wanikani. I however plan on using memrise to follow the rest of this outline. Does anybody know a good level to reach on wanikani before i start the first grammar section on the outline?

これは上り電車です。The english is “this train’s headed for Tokyo.” Don’t you actually need Tokyo in the sentence, or am I missing something?
Hi, i had a quick look at the RTK course and was a little bit confused. I only learn the meaning and how to write them in this course, but not how to pronounce them, is this correct (just want to make sure)? And ill learn how to pronounce them in an upcoming course?
Yes, you learn the rough meaning and how to recognize/write them in RTK then use that knowledge when it comes to learning how to use them in Japanese vocabulary which you’ll see in both grammar and vocabulary courses.
