[Course Forum] All Courses By LarBoylan

Hi
Thanks.
I have corrected the typo in level 30.
Some of the duplicates in the course are intentional as some people may prefer to learn certain levels (topics) only.
I have kept these down to a minimum and have tried to use the same word from the database. This ensures that if you learn a word in level 10 it will also be marked as learned in level 22 even if you have never studied level 22.
Having said this, 3 of the above were actually duplicates and I have replaced them with the correct database word - el año + el mes in level 22 and la semana in level 42 - la hora was in fact the same database word and would have been treated as the same word in either level when learned or reviewed.

Thanks again as these can be very difficult to find.

Hola Lar,

About Basic to Intermediate Spanish, level 20
ÂżcuĂĄntas palabras hay en esta oraciĂłn?

Just got an audio exercise for this sentence. And it is really impossible to hear an “esta” here.

Hi,
Yes it does tend to blend in with ‘oración’ .
I have removed it and replaced it with 2 new audios. Hopefully these are more clear.

Thanks
Lar

Yes, they are much clearer. Thanks.

many thanks for your work!

I am trying to take the sentences courses, (although Duolingo has so many silly sentences, and) although the absence-presence game with the personal pronouns in front of the predicate is getting sometimes tiresome: “ella se siente superior a Ă©l” ok, but not “se siente superior a Ă©l”, although “es completamente brillante -she is completely brilliant” etc
 this kind of stuff

again, thanks for your work

Hi

I have changed “ella se siente superior a Ă©l” to also accept “se siente superior a Ă©l”.
I had originally put an attribute saying "emphasis on ‘she’ " but have removed that now in favour of accepting both answers above.

I have tried to put in all acceptable answers for all phrases but as you can imagine it is very easy to miss one (or not even know one).
I am doing these courses myself to find such errors (and have corrected a few).

Many Thanks
Lar

 muchas gracias!

hi there

I am not sure that duolingo/google guessed this right: tĂș y yo somos iguales = tĂș y yo somos los mismos =
you and I are the same (course 3)

I’d take the first Spanish phrase to convey the meaning of equality (before the law, etc)

have a nice weekend

Hello again,

Back with some small problems in Basic to Intermediate Spanish.

level 22
el escenario - scene
Would you please add “stage” to the description? It seems to be the most common translation.

level 31
la mandarina
appears twice

level 33
los frijoles - beans
why the Latin American word frijoles and not las judĂas / las alubias?

level 34
dentro de - in , inside, wihtin
typo

Hi duaal

I have made the changes you mentioned above.
There is now only one entry for ‘la mandarina’ - mandarin, tangerine.
los frijoles has been removed and 2 new entries for las judĂas / las alubias added.

Thanks again.

“fue uno de ustedes” in DuoMem Spanish Phrases Part 3

would it be possible to make the attributes a bit larger, or to add after the English translation “(formal)”

I keep typing in “vosotros”

also, for “voy hacia la derecha” two identical "I am going towards the right - I go towards the right " appear in the learning phase (as multiple choices, before one finally gets to the typing phase); it was impossible to learn this items (maybe @joshua c0ould have another look over the issue of phantom entries in the database?)

thanks

Hi
I have added (formal plural) to the English phrase.
I have also edited the “voy hacia la derecha” phrase and saved , then re-edited it back to the original.
This can sometimes get rid of duplicates/ghost phrases from the individual edited phrase.

Thanks
Lar

many thanks
those phantom entries could drive one nuts

hi!
mem duolingo 3: escribe tu dirección aquí - could you change the attribute to (informal) or (tu)? “familiar” is a bit

muchas gracias!

Hi,

I have changed this to informal.
I have also standardized the other entries in this course to ‘informal’ where necessary .

Many Thanks

ahem

at “it was one of you”
after learning a number of various phrases, I tend to forget which one you want

estaba, estuvo, era, or fue
 it is “fue” , but

thousand thanks

edit: the DuoMem 3

Hi
These ones can be tricky.
In this case “it was one of you” it can be both ‘fue’ or ‘era’ as there is nothing in the sentence to say was the event ongoing or complete.
I have included ‘era
’ as an alternative answer.
I usually include both as acceptable answers unless otherwise indicated.

fue is the Preterite (simple past) usually used for completed actions in the past. (it was one of you that broke the window)
Spanishdict.com has a good explanation : https://www.spanishdict.com/guide/spanish-preterite-tense-forms#.WJDK9Fx0QnP

era is the Imperfect past usually used for ongoing actions or events that occurred regularly in the past. (it was one of you (it used to be one of you) that washed our windows)
Spanishdict.com has a good explanation : https://www.spanishdict.com/guide/spanish-imperfect-tense-forms#.WJDK71x0QnP

These still confuse me a lot too.
I hope this helps.
Lar

i do know what the differences are, I wanted to point out to the fact that the English language cannot cover the Spanish here (German, French, Italian etc each fares better

many thanks

duolingo 3: everyone speaks spanish -everybody speaks spanish, now only “todo el mundo habla español”

what about todos hablan espanol, todas hablan espanol?

also: the animal is afraid - the animal is fearful, now el animal tiene miedo; what about “el animal está asustado”?

muchas gracias!
