[Course Forum] + 2000 Indonesian Words by thebiglearner/SNikola

(sorry for hijacking, @guestgulkan, you don’t have your own forums so, for your Queensland course, please add semalam as synonym for tadi malam)

done - btw just use the old forums for now. I’ll create a forum once the old ones are shut.

many thanks as usual. but how can you know when those will be shut and if some messages are not lost - i.e. you did not answer them because you did not see them (timezone difference etc)? one cannot be sure of anything in here…

Oops. They shut them. I’ve created my own forum now so we can leave Snikola alone.

I changed this as:

  • mau - to want (informal)
  • ingin - to want, wish (formal)

I did this now.

“musim semi” - does “spring” mean - a wire coil, to jump up or a season?
“kebetualan” - coincidence -> accidentally, by chance?
“tebal” - the audio is funny - non-native speaker and quiet?
“rumput” - “grass / weed” -> to just “grass”
“menyerbu” - “to attack” -> “to attack (with many people), invade”
“terpa” - “to attack ( meteorological term)” - meteorological? it relates to weather?
“dampak” - “affect”. Everything I see says “effect” with an “e”, which is a different thing in english.
“diduga” -> “was estimated/guessed”
“lupa” - “forget, fail” - just “to forget”, no fail
"jeruk" - “orange (fruit)” - “orange; citrus”. also refers to citrus in general
"perjanjian" - “lease agreement”. “agreement / appointment”. why limit it to just leases?
“senapan mesin berat” - heavy machine gun. really weird word to include. Maybe teach the “senapan” first?
“tol” - “highway” . Very wrong. “tol = toll” surely? highway is jalan raya I think.
“mohon” - “please”. “to ask for, request, plead for”. Actually, why is “tolong” missing from this course?
“angsuran” - “payment” -> “payment (Installment)”.
“arahan” - “briefing” -> “instructions, guideline”. a briefing is like an update
"saldo" - “balance” -> “account balance”

och Mann @guestgulkan :innocent: SNikola did not made that course, you know that ( thebiglearner lol :innocent: threw at users some bulkaddcopypaste stuff and left the users learning false things)
… that is why I never took this one most popular Indonesian course on memrise, if full of mistakes from one end to the other

@SNikola, many thanks for your efforts!

  • Changed English “musim semi” to “spring (season)”.
  • “kebetulan” is a noun so I’d rather leave it as it is.
  • “tebal” - that would be me, feel free to contribute better audio.
  • Changed English for “rumput” to “grass”.
  • Changed English for “terpa” to just “to attack”.
  • Changed English for “dampak” to “effect” although I don’t think it’s the best translation.
  • Can’t find “diduga” in the database.
  • Changed English for “lupa” to just “forget”.
  • Changed English for “jeruk” to “orange (fruit), citrus”.
  • Changed English for “perjanjian” to “agreement, contract”.
  • "senapan mesin berat - I would gladly put all the words that form compounds before the compound.
  • According to http://kbbi.web.id/tol “tol” could be either a toll or a toll road, so I changed English to “toll, toll road”.
  • Changed English for “mohon” to “please (formal)”.
  • “saldo” was already “account balance”.

Can’t really verify the others.

I think it should be just loss. It may mean damages (not damage) but I don’t see it being deficit either.

How about impact for dampak?

Hi @Hydroptere yeah but my streak is 235 and I can’t stop now! I think +2000 words was originally a google translate course. Anyway the first half wasn’t too bad, but the quality is worse in the second half. I think because less people have made it to halfway to perform corrections. Plus it has audio that works (A+ Indonesian has shouting/echo audio and the speed review doesn’t work on android).

After I’ve finished the course maybe you can try it again?

Hi @SNikola -

these are all the english definitions that are repeated identically in the course:

action, advice, animal, archery, area, barracks, book, breakfast, briefing, broken, budget, calm, chance, cloudy, code, condition, corpse, cotton, custom, deposit, discount, dry season, equipment, face downward, form, god, group, heart, helmet, independent, javelin, level, life vest, lyrics, manager, married, movie, musician, noodle, ocean, package, payment, pen, point, pole, pure, regulation, report, rope, round, service, supply, surgery, to attack, to be needed, to bow, to bury, to close, to cut, to invite, to open, to order, to rent, to see, to send, to shoot, to spread, to stop, to take off, to taste, to want, vein, very, wages, x-ray

here are all the indonesian words that are duplicated:

asrama, bunga, dada, dingin, janji, jurusan, lantai, latihan, laut, masuk, memeriksa, menderita, menguasai, menurut, muda, pusat, suci, suku, tahu, tambang, tawar, terletak, turun, umum, ya

  • due to recent fixes some of these are no longer duplicates

thanks

“bea cukai” - “custom”. I think this refers to customs at the border? or traditional customs? This is one of the dupes, above.
“penggemar” - “fans” - ceiling fans. “enthusiast; devotee; fan”

@SNikola, mantel, level 4. The audio appears to be wrong. I’ve tried it many times over a couple of different devices and it says “pantel” or similar, but definitely not mantel.

Terima kasih.

I deleted the sound.

@SNikola Oh, can I help with the sound?

If you want to create a quick google translate mp3 you can use SoundOfText .com .

Maybe you could use it to fix “santai” - which has no “n” sound. I find “sanntai” produces the correct audio.

@guestgulkan Google Translate is already used for all the sounds in the course, if it made already made an error, it will make the same error again. I have updated santai with your trick.

@ChiewPang Sure, if you are certain you can pronounce it properly.
