A new web dashboard is now available in Alpha!

Something like this would probably be better:

Yes, or smaller or just the small yellow (or preferably green) tick :heavy_check_mark:

Hi,
I really like the new design graphically, but as previously said I find it really long to load.

As a multiple language learner, I usually review all language by language and not course by course. I like that you left a button to do so, but 2 things are a bit annoying :

  • Every time I load the page I need to reselect a language because it always loads the main page. It takes 2 more clicks to load every review session.
  • I don’t really like the 99+ not showing the actual number, I usually don’t prepare the same for 120 and for 500.

Other than that, I liked seeing my overall streak on the main page, it used to motivate me. I don’t really care about the individual courses streak as I don’t always have words to review on each on them. I would love a streak per language though.

As usual, I love the improvements. The extra wide space does not bother me, especially knowing that the website is made more responsive without having to stack elements or create overflow. A couple of things I see/agree with from the other comments:

  1. a checkmark for a complete course would be preferred instead of the dark overlay
  2. I would like to have more keyboard shortcuts to access the individual courses or for choosing the type of review for the words
  3. more classroom tools for teachers (I know this is probably a longer term project, but I have all my students using this program and they have to turn in screen shots. I wish there was a way for them to give me access to their stats so I could see their total number of words, words needing reviewing, etc.

Thank you for all your hard work and for the opportunity to speak to the design. Keep up the great work!

Not sure due to never having used them, but isn’t this what Memrise Groups are for?

i like beta better with the goals of time limits instead of how many words you are going to learn that day…also it seems like i learn better on the beta system if there was a time slot of 30 minutes instead of 45 that would be fantastic! Thanks!

Is there a way to sort courses by various criteria? That would be helpful.

Hi @sean.mcbride.94043

Sadly it doesn’t seem to be included in the web Alpha Homepage (Dashboard).

@MemriseSupport, correct me if I’m wrong. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Could this be added please?

Sean, if you want to sort, I think you need to return to the Classic web view then sort by category with the drop down menu.

Also you can of course search for new courses by category or by key words.

And once started, they’ll be available on the App.

Thanks for changing the rocket to a V when a course hits the daily goal. Very helpful and now it’s easy to tell.
I’m running out of things to complain about, the new dashboard is definitely okay now.
Having to click an extra time to open the learning stats means for me I’ll almost never use them out of laziness, but it’s a small thing. Would be cool if there was a mini learning stats, maybe it could be placed instead of the “thanks for using alpha” area in the right menu.
I still open each course in a new tab however, because it’s just faster than loading the dashboard every time.

It’s still there:

Many thanks Olaf.

That comes back to my request for some text beside that symbol.

Point 5a > A new web dashboard is now available in Alpha! - #34 by DW7 <

Just shows I forgot as it’s not obvious.

It seems we have too many commands for hidden information. (Top right and middle right - which is more obvious.)

I’ve been registered on memrise for a couple years now, and I actively used it last year.

This dashboard is of course terrible. I don’t see how someone could think about it as an improvement (unless he uses the website from two-meter distance)

Having a cleaner design that allows you to focus on your key workflows

wtf, nope, you’ve only removed all the valuable information from the left sidebar (strike calendar, mini activity calendar etc) and used empty space to add nothing. That’s not the same. Those numbers are important, they kept people engaged.

[frabcus_memrise]: You can also bookmark that page directly

lol that’s embarrassing to read

Set us up for faster delivery of new features

Great, can you now stop redesigning and focus on what could actually improve workflows:

  1. having a way to remove a word from learning. You hit the “ignore from future reviews” button and it keeps appearing until the end of the session. Also, it doesn’t work every other time, and you’ll likely review that word again and again until it will work.

  2. fixing annoying bugs. Every other time site forgets what words I’ve learned last time, and have to learn them from start again.

  3. being able to alter translation or add notes for yourself

  4. not showing the landing page if I’m already logged in, being able to close modals with esc button, and countless other improvements that should be obvious for anyone who actually uses this website

I don’t believe we’ll get any of that of course, the redesign of some stupid stats page or whatever is probably way more important in your list.

That is actually, in my humble opinion, the fundamental problem with Memrise, and has been for the 4+ years that I’ve been using the system: I do have the feeling that, whatever folks develop the apps (web, iOS, Android), both in terms of developing and deciding about new features and developing in the sense of actually writing code, they never really use Memrise themselves.

There are so many absolutely obvious errors and flaws that become apparent by simply doing a single session across a few official and community courses, but no: every update bears a very high risk of another feature getting amputated or a new error being introduced. Most of them aren’t serious, but those bugs/annoyances have actually piled up (Ziggy would approve, SCNR!). And, instead of fixing things, stuff like this completely and utterly horrible new dashboard (make that the horrible new Corporate Design!) seem to be what all resources go into. And regardless of any criticism (much of which is very constructive), nothing is happening.

It’s as if designers took over, all developers left the company and the management doesn’t care anymore.

The filter course menu always being open is a questionable design decision. It looks especially bad when combined with with an opened right menu, and it just covers the course picture.
I also don’t think it needs to scroll together with the user. It’d be neater if it just stayed on top

Random thought but can you please add back the mute audio feature on the web. In alpha it’s gone, and there isn’t a way to activate it. Thanks!
