"You wrote" is always blank

For the past few days whenever I get something wrong the "You wrote . . . " is always blank! I’ve tried to use Firefox, Safari and Chrome and see the same behavior in all browsers.

Yep! It’s been reported a couple of times but a ‘bump’ or two may help get @BeaTrisy’s attention. :persevere:

@BeaTrisy Is this on your list of things to address? It is really important that this feature work correctly. Is it really something I just got wrong or did I just make a silly typing mistake? Thanks in advance for your attention to this bug.

still happening, and really unhelpful if you’re looking to learn correct spelling etc as you don’t know where you went wrong…

agreed! It is quite frustrating trying to find out if anyone is even looking at this issue. I have been very frustrated in dealing with Memrise support issues, it is sometimes just a “black hole” into which you throw bug reports and hope that someone will read them, but I’ve rarely gotten any response. I highlightes @BeaTrisy (who I don’t actually know) in the hopes it might get a little attention.

Hey,

Does this issue happen on all courses? Also what happens when you tap on the small eye Icon to reveal/hide the answer?

Hi @BeaTrisy,

It’s certainly happening in all of my courses. If you go to the first link in my post above, you’ll find a couple of screenshots which show what I’m seeing when I click on the yellow eye icon.

Until I read your (@BeaTrisy) post I was unaware of this small eye icon. It appears to toggle the behavior of showing/not showing what you wrote. Is this a new “feature”? Was it introduced recently with the default behavior of not showing what you wrote? I’ve been using Memrise for quite some time and had never noticed this. But, to answer your question, “yes” if I click the eye it now works.

Is there a way for users to become aware of features like this when they are introduced? I had assumed that the “eye” had something to do with the less/more toggling, so I’ve never actually clicked it, that I’m aware of at least.

@BeaTrisy For me it happens in all courses and clicking the eye does not fix it. As I said in my post reporting this, clicking the eye will toggle it from being blank to showing what I wrote. It used to toggle it from showing what I wrote to showing what I wrote with the differences highlighted. If you go to my post, the first one alanh linked above, you will see the screenshots alanh provided.

The small yellow eye icon is not a new feature. Until the recent bug, it showed in bold black type what you had typed as your (incorrect) answer. If you then clicked on the eye icon, it would change the display to show incorrect characters in red type and, if I remember correctly, any missing ones in green type so that you can see what you got wrong.

It’s still broken.

This still isn’t fixed and it’s incredibly frustrating.

ah yes, I remember now. It is not very useful now that you have to read what you wrote “all in black” and compare with the correct answer above it :frowning:

+1 it’s really irritating.

Perhaps now that the new interface has been rolled out there will be time to actually fix regressions @BeaTrisy ?
