'Wrong' answers because I can't type accents

Title pretty much explains my predicament. Language concerned is Serbian. What can I do about this?

By the way I saw there was a similar topic about this, but it had been closed and merged into a big topic about punctuation, but I saw little mention of accents in particular.

I have a few ideas.

1a - Change you computer’s keyboard language/layout to Serbian. On a Mac, go to System Preferences > Keyboard > Input Sources, and then click the + to add a language/layout. The steps are probably similar with a Windows computer.

1b - Add Serbian to your phone’s language/keyboard options. On an Apple device, go to Settings > General > Keyboard > Keyboards > Add New Keyboard. When typing, there’s a little globe icon next to the space bar. Tap to change layouts. Press and hold to select from a list (if you have more than 2-3 installed.) I’m guessing it’s similar with Android.

2 - Use a keyboard editor. For Macs, the software is Ukelele. (There’s another program for Windows.) I learned to type with a Dvorak layout, and I’ve all but forgotten how to type with QWERTY, so changing my laptop’s keyboard layout to Turkish or Romanian doesn’t help me much. Instead, I created a couple of keyboard layouts based on the Dvorak layout, and added the Turkish letters to one and the Romanian letters to the other. I switch to these layouts when working on Romanian and Turkish courses. For German and Spanish, I either use the usual shortcuts (alt-s for ß, alt-e+o for ó, etc) or I use text replacement software.

3 - Text replacement software. I only discovered Ukelele last month. Before that, I was using (and am still using) text replacement software. For Macs, that’s Text Expander. I pasted the character (IE: ğ, ı or ă) into Text Expander, and then created a key combo that replaces those 3-4 characters with the special letter. (IE: g’,. = ğ and u.,a = ă … These key combos are very fast and easy to type with a Dvorak layout.)
