Please help.

Hello.

I think this is due to a bug that Memrise introduced somewhat recently that makes it so that things in parenthesis are now required. (Please see this topic for more information).

This means that, for example, you would now need to type “царь (m.)” for the word “tsar” instead of just “царь”. They’ve said that they’re working on a fix for this, so for now you may want to either type the pieces that are in parentheses or hold off for a bit until they deploy a fix for the bug.

Hope that helps

Thank you very much. The issue is as you said. I can make some progress again. I really appreciate your help.
Have a great day.

You’re welcome. Glad I could help

I’ve come across a similar error in French 1. When I type au for to the it comes up as an error. Then it gets stuck on the screen when I try to type the prompted correct answer. Seems to be a small bug in the system.

Sounds to me like it’s likely he same issue. Try typing the full answer, including parentheses or commas

In German Irregular Verbs, memrise requires misspellings as correct and requires repetition of words spelled correctly, since it sees them as wrong. Gewonnen, past participle of gewinnen, requires three letter n’s in a row (gewonnnen) to count as correct. I have to remember which form of the word I have to spell wrong in order not to have to repeat until I get them wrong as required. The same is true of the infinitive erschrecken, which requires that we leave out the first c (“ershrecken”). This is very tedious and frustrating, since these words come up again and again as “difficult”, when in fact it is the software programming that is making them difficult.

this is the wrong thread for this: not the system sees those entries as correct/not correct, but the creator of the course made some mistakes You should try contact the creator etc

I’ve been trying to figure out how to do exactly that. So far, no good.

look at the name of the course creator, tag her/him in here, like this @“username”, and/or search for a fora for that course. If the creator is not active, tag one of the memrise team people (lien, joshua, and put that emaol sign in front of their nick) and ask them to send a mail to the creator…

look in some thread to see how things function, for ex: http://community.memrise.com/t/course-forum-indonesian-courses-by-guestgulkan/2293; http://community.memrise.com/t/course-forum-1692-most-important-words-in-greek/817; etc

Hi @rpwendell,

Many of the courses on this site are made by users instead of by the Memrise team. I took a look at your profile, and it appears that the course that you’re referring to is a user-created course that isn’t very active (it only has three users, including yourself).

My advice would be to try to find a course that’s more popular and give it a go. Alternatively, if you’d to try to get the errors in the course that you’re taking fixed, please create a new thread over in the German part of the forums with a link to that course and then post back here so that we can help you out with what to do next.

Welcome to the forums, by the way!

Thanks tons, neoncube! I can put up with the errors, Just trying to be
helpful and get them fixed if possible. I find that particular course
extremely useful, since irregular verbs are a pain in the tush until you
finally get them down. This course really works me out, so I’ll stick with
it despite the errors. I’m up to over 200 in long term memory out of 251
anyway.

Sincerely,

Robert

You’re welcome

If you want, you could fix the errors yourself. You’d just need to ask someone to add you as a contributor.

I encountered a problem of this description. Here’s a screenshot. This is the page that gives you unlimited time to correct your spelling. Note that my original spelling appears correct. My retyping of it was green up until I entered the last two characters… (The slash was optional.) The red feedback is telling me the letter I selected for “c” was “wrong”.

In this case I knew better, because I was successful typing the Russian letter “c”, and only failed when I tried to use the same letter as English “c”.

The problem is, they are identical - as you can see in the screenshot. For some letters, there isn’t actually any way to distinguish which is the Russian letter and which was the English letter (“p” “o” “e” and “a” are also problematic). When you guess incorrectly, you get dinged.

I think the solution is just stop asking for the English language grammar comments in the user inputs, and remove English letters from the letter selection area. That’s painful anyway, and it’s why the problem exists.

Hi @diana_Ryan64

Thank you for reporting this issue. We will work on fixing this problem.

All the best
