I thought this was the point of the flash cards where did they go?
@ionisme
What course are you talking about specifically?
Well, there are several issues
You could call Memrise nowadays “Membroken”, or “Ziggyrise” (it’s all about useless frontend changes, corrupting their own system, dropping features, creating bugs)
a) offical Memrise 1-7 courses simply dropped support to select (created) Mems from other users (Mems have been abused - there was a take-over/over-write bug AFAIK)
b) user-created courses still have Mems and you can select them (this feature was brought back once they took it away BUT
c) once you select a Mem it is disassociated every time (at least for my one PT BR course), so for the next review your word will be empty 99%
For a) offical 1-7 courses you can try to create your OWN mems.
Maybe you run into issue c) or not (“should be” working).
Try it for yourself.
For c) there is a longer thread - un-answered since months from the Memrise staff…maybe I or somone else finds it again and could link it for you.
You better live without Mems if you want to use the Memrise web portal.
I have not tested around with Mems on the Android app - but I have heared that users have issues there too.
If you really want to associate pictures to flashcards, you better use OpenSource flashcard software.
Or you import your own courses from Memrise to Anki (Memrise2Anki) and edit the flashcards there later with pictures (maybe you find an addon which auto-searched the web, who knows). I am just starting with Anki and I am not a longer-term user with lot’s of experience.
The other option is to try the 10.000 words free vocabulary app from www.languagecourse.net vocabulary trainer VT, which is based on Leitner index card boxes. Many courses are available. They have an Android app.
The VT courses (topics/themes e.g A1) for Portuguese BR which I had tested ALL had pictures associated to words; the user did NOT have to manually create Mems.
ahem
wrong. Sorry. I do use mems, and… they do not disappear the whole time. You have to reselect them especially in newer courses. From a very reduced number of mems.
Ah, so you think it is couse-dependent? Interesting.
Mems definitely worked before - and then suddenly stopped (as explained with the c) re-select and disappearing all the time over and over again).
I have no idea about the other 8 courses as I ONLY selected other Mems, never created my own.
Usually, the mems are on your profile. If not, it could be a glitch, or they may not have saved.
Farewell!!
