When will we be able to add mems at any time?

I’ve just started using Memrise again after a couple of years away from it. One thing I’m really missing is the ability to create new mems at any time. I looked it up in the FAQs here, where it says:

At the moment, it’s only possible to create a mem for an item (word or phrase) during a learning or reviewing session, so essentially only when you are presented with a new item or an item you got incorrect during a reviewing session.

Booo. Is this a recent change? It is inconvenient that the only time you can create one is when waiting for a word to be reviewed - that can be weeks away! When will we be able to add mems at any time, as before?

If you go into the level containing the item that you want to create a mem for, you can select “Preview” from the “Options” drop-down menu. This will take you through the main pages for each item in the level, and you can create mems there.

As far as I can remember, this is how it’s worked in the two and a half years or so that I’ve been using Memrise.

I’ve been using memrise since 2012. It has never been possible to just pick an item and create a mem for it. Previewing a level was the closest we ever got to that. Unfortunately for the past couple of months there has been a bug with previewing that makes this more annoying to do:

On the old forums I asked for the ability to select the learning screen for any individual item, years ago. IIRC other people also asked for this. Memrise never responded about whether they’d do it at the time, and now it’s a lost cause: Memrise explicitly told us when they started this new forum a few months ago that they are not interested in hearing feature suggestions and do not intend on doing any feature work for the web UI at all, period.

What we have is what we’re stuck with. Just pray they don’t ruin it any further.

It is indeed a bit of a pain with the entries jumbled around as they currently are, especially with larger levels.

Another option when trying to access a particular item is to temporarily ignore everything in the level but the item you’re looking for, click “Review” at the top, and hit escape either without answering the prompt or immediately after answering. This will take you to the page where you can create a mem without needing to dig through the other items in the level.
