I have a small tiny “thing” containing courses in the middle of the screen and two huge white swaths on both sides…All fonts are smaller, including on the learning page. Tabs are irregular.
Memrise is the only site with this change, therefore the culprit is not my browser

That sounds like a ‘real pain in the …’, 
I’ve had quite a long session on the website today (using Chrome) but haven’t seen anything like you describe. I know you said you don’t believe it’s a browser problem but which one do you use? Can you post a screenshot? It may help identify the problem…or maybe it was a temporary thing that has now cleared.
it’s somehow flickering… now it is there, now it is not. I’ve cleaned completely Firefox, deactivated user styles: I had the normal UI for a while, but the tabs and fonts are still jumpy. Given the team does not care, I’ll delete the thread.

@Hydroptere Looks like Firefox could be the cause of your problem. Can you confirm if this happens to other web browsers?
yes, I do think that memrise is quite unstable on the latest firefox versions, or that other way round, Firefox is making problems on memrise - I am updating Firefox every time a new version is available, and I am not a fan of the latest firefox tweaks. Unfortunately…
Sorry, I cannot help further: I am not using Google (Chrome), and I gave up Opera some 4 years ago.
