What is my 'Review Load'?

Let’s say that I’ve learned 1800 words of German to the level where I’m only asked about them once every 180 days. I could review 10 words) a day and keep them all in my long term memory - my ‘review load’ is 10.

If I started from scratch right now, and learned 20 words, I’d need to review all 20 of those words tomorrow (or even in six hours), so my ‘review load’ would be 20.

This concept I’m imagining is the (sum of (180 / review period) for all words) / 180. Does this exist? Do other people consider this? Is there any way of calculating it through Memrise?

I guess what I want to know at any given point is whether or not it is a good idea to press on with that next 20 words. I’m sure we’ve all gotten excited, powered through and then ended up having to review far too much for the next week.

I’m not sure there is a formula, but definitely agree with your overall thought/approach.
Personally I have reached the point where I only learn new words (and limit those to 10/day) when my review load leaves me with capacity to do so - that way I can somewhat control how much time (and focus/energy) I spend on ‘servicing’ Memrise per day

You want to look into the future. This lets you do that:
