In the pro feature “this month’s learning graph” what exactly is a “learning event” - I can’t see how that relates to anything (number of words reviewed, number of words in difficult list, time spent etc)?
What is it counting?? thanks.

Basically, it’s counting each time you enter an answer - whether it’s during a learning phase or a reviewing phase. It includes clicking on “Next” when presented with a new item during the learning phase.
I don’t see how that can possibly be correct - there is no correlation between my activity and that number as far as I can tell.
Based on my experience, here are the actions that count as a learning event:
So, if today you planted 15 items, watered 45 items, and previewed 5 more in order to pick a new mem for one of them, you’ll probably have 80 learning events. (Edit/Correction: 15 words times 6 answers each = 90 … + 45 reviews + 5 previews comes to 140 total.)
Yep. Agreed, but I think there’s a typo there and you intended to say “5”.
Also, of course, the 45 and 5 would all have to be correct answers. Otherwise, there would be further reviews which would increas the total beyond “80”.
Oops! You’re totally right—I messed up the math.
Ok. I’ve been reading all your replies and wondering what you’ve all been smoking, because my efforts at reviewing and learning and difficult words etc have no discernible relation to the “learning events”.
I open up memrise this morning to find that I have learning events for today before I’ve done anything!?!
Clearly this “feature” is not aware of my time zone - and therein lies the problem. If its idea of a day is not my idea of a day it is not as useful for me (8 hours off of UTC).
So, memrise coders - please fix the gadget that graphs my learning events, such that it is on the same time zone as the learner!! thank you!
Are you aware that you can adjust your settings accordingly? That is to say: you can tell Memrise in which timezone you are.
Absolutely - I am set to the Los Angeles/Pacific timezone - which is correct (well, it should be Vancouver, but that makes no difference as they’re both in the same timezone). But the “learning events” seem to be counted over a 24 hour period that must be UTC instead.
Aside - word to the wise - don’t change your timezone after you’ve got your daily points, or you’ll lose them! Had that happen when we traveled to London this past summer. Had already earned the days points (to feed my streak), and then reset the timezone - had to re-earn the days points!! (which is good for me, I know …)
I have a similar issue @jrthomson, except I live in Melbourne, Australia so for me it’s 11 hours ahead of UTC, This means when I work on Memrise in the morning (any time up to 11am), I’m accruing points for the previous day. This is a age-old issue and there must not be an easy answer. for Memrise to “fix it”. On a side issue burt related, even though I finished all my “daily streaks” (on those respective 5 courses) before I went to bed, for this example on Saturday night; now it’s Sunday morning I can achieve all my daily streaks for this new day (Sunday) while still accruing points for yesterday (Sat). I always have to remember, and I do, to do more work later on on the day, ie any time after 11am, to keep over overall streak running.
Right. And the week ends at 16:00 on Sunday (for me here on the west coast of Canada) - weekly totals roll over.
