What happens when I push "see answer", SRS-wise? Does this mean "fail" or just "try again"?

I don’t particularly make use of the multiple choice on memrise. I look at the prompt and try to think of the answer. If I can’t think of it, I just hit see answer.

When I hit see answer, does this count as a fail on that card? I noticed when I hit see answer, when I get to the end, I still have 100% accuracy. The card will re-appear in reviews instantly, and I can typically get it right. I’ve noticed cards I “see answer” which means fail in my head don’t pop up again very quickly, which makes me think see answer does not mean fail in the SRS system.

Am I fucking myself over SRS wise? Is the system just saying “see answer” means loop it for another review, and hten when I get it right, it never considered it failed and has continued on to not ask me about it for many days just for me to probably fail it again?

Do I need to be purposely picking wrong answers so I can make the SRS work?

In my experience, I’ve noticed that doing Skip on mobile WILL give it to me in the “Difficult words” section after, so I presume it ends up counting as a fail on that card. I’m not sure if the same happens on the web. Either way, having an official confirmation of it would definitely be useful! Thanks for asking the question!

Interestingly, by that criteria, I do not see a lot of cards in my difficult words bank, though I do not have pro so I’m just looking at the number on the top right corner. I would expect to see more given that I’ve failed a few dozen cards, but I only see 3.

Based on this I think I was right that clicking “see answer” does not mark it as wrong. I will be purposely picking wrong answers from here on out. This is a big flaw in the SRS, unless the Memrise team can clarify that I’m wrong here.

Sorry for double reply.

In my latest experiment I have been purposely selecting wrong answers, which is now increasing my difficult words bank, so I believe my initial theory that “see answer” does not properly flag as wrong was correct.

Edit: As followup, I am now seeing the ones I selected wrong purposely show up in a timely way for reviews. My final conclusion of this experiment is that I have a false sense of confidence in my ability due to a lot of failed cards not being marked as failed, which will take some time to come back as SRS for me to purposely mark as mistaken.
