What does Audio Mode Enabled do in Course Details?

Hi all,

Just downloaded Memrise - all excited now. Using it to teach my kids Mandarin - and they love it!

Creating my own list of Chinese words to teach the kids via a Course. I just noticed in Course Details (when I click Edit Course), there is an ‘Audio Mode Enabled’ checkbox which is not checked by default. What does it do? I searched high and low in the doco and can’t find any details on this option

Many thanks for all your help!

On Android App there is a mode called ‘Listening Skills’.
On the Web there is a mode called ‘Audio review’.

If you enable that option then those modes will be enabled.

In those modes you are being tested on audio, so your course has to have audio.

Indeed, if you create your own course, you must add the column for adding audio files. You can create those (your kids will hear your own voice) or use resources from the internet.
If you prowl around this forum with the search engine keying on “audio” you will find many tips and clues about it.

One of the contributors here has created a script to add audio automatically to “Hanzi”. But I believe, if you have the time, adding your own voice would be great to your kids!

Thanks for all your replies. Just one question, I am currently using IOS App. If I enable Audio Mode on my Course, does it work on IOS? or is it Android & Web only?

It should be on IOS as well.

However it think that the audio modes are a premium feature.

Nonetheless if you don’t have premium you can achieve similar result by changing testing direction to audio - > chinese (for example).

and then
