What are the benefits of Memrise Pro?

I went “pro” a few days ago. So far I am wondering why.

I THOUGHT I was going to get extra features which were mentioned, such as additional review resources to (as the app says) “make 60% faster progress”. Supposedly I was going to be able to “Target difficult words”, “Start tracking deep learning data”, “Learn with videos”, and “We teach you all the skills you need to speak fluently”. However, looking for these extra features…I see NONE of them.

What I DID see – and didn’t appreciate in the least - was that
(1) I was autosubscribed and had to waste a fair amount of time trying to figure out how to turn that off
(2) I wrote a letter to tech support asking how, specifically (as in step by step), to turn this off and days later don’t appear to have a response on that and other usability questions/suggestions. Especially as a paying member that is really a turn off. Just FYI…something the company CEO ought to be thinking about.

Look. I really appreciate the learning resources and programming time it took to get this tool this far. That was in large part why I decided to pay rather than continue for free.

But it would be near trivial (given the work already done) to add some real advantages to paying members AND document how to use them and why. Why don’t I have a speed review and special flash card support of some sort?

Right now feeling sour grapes. And that shouldn’t be happening. I’ve spent the last 15 minutes or more looking around for a “secret” way to click myself into the extra features I thought I would have access to. But I really don’t see them.

And you know what makes foul “icing on the cake”? I came hear to this site looking for some - hopefully - missing documentation on “pro” membership…and I can’t find it. I even searched for “pro member” and nothing came back. This is nuts making and it ought to be the company’s priority to fix this gap IMMEDIATELY.

Thank you. BTW, Customers don’t usually bother to waste my time to complain unless the customer cares. I care. Please SHOW me that the company owners and employees care, also. I think I deserve a very thoughtful, very responsive, very timely reply.

And there’s Speed Review, but that’s not a pro feature.

Some additions:

  1. Audio review mode is available only for courses, that have audio in their database and for which this mode was activated (as I remember a course needs to have about 70-80% of words with audio to be able to have audio mode.

  2. Video mode is a recent project Membus, and will be available for cources created by memrise team, not the community (as most of courses are). Here they are: http://www.memrise.com/user/Memrise/courses/teaching/

  3. Also, recently they made an offline app courses available only for pro members, which is as for me, one of the stronges benefits of pro now.

So right now “membus” seems to only be available for European languages. What about those of us learning languages spoken in South East Asia?

The pages for both “Stats” and “Difficult words” could use a bit of love from the dev team. All image links are broken there:

I paid for pro specifically so that I could access the audio function. As a language learner, it really doesn’t make much sense to learn words if I can’t hear how they are pronounced. That sorta misses the point. This course says there is audio, but I’ve yet to hear any.

Now, I understand that this is most likely the fault of the course maker. However, there should be some sort of check by memrise that if a course creator states there is audio… there should actually be some freaking audio. Otherwise that’s just false advertisement.

I have to agree with tanstaaf1 on this. It would be nice to get some feedback on these issues from someone that actually works at memrise.

It is a literal bus, they drove around Europe collecting audio on a bus. I am sure if they get all the money back that was invested they will consider doing it with more countries, why wouldn’t they?

You should be able to tell if there is audio on the course or not, there will be audio in the free version, just not an audio-only mode.

If you ask to be made a curator of the course you are doing you can add the audio yourself, one by one, using forvo.
