I really prefer the timer being vertical rather than at the top, because it felt like it was much more organic to look at the options and how much time I had left, rather than having them be split into two different screen areas. It feels like I have to rapidly glance between them, rather than being able to see them both at once.
As a user doing a speed review, Iâd like to see (again) the type of the word Iâm supposed to translate. Example: English/Spanish course. Most English nouns are displayed without article. English term to translate: âLatinâ. Answer options include: âlatinoâ and âel latinâ. Both could be correct.

The thai script in the Beta version is too small to be easily read. I had to increase zoom to 125% on the entire page, which cuts out some of the bottom of the screen.
-
The old speed review used to mix sessions between English to Thai and Thai to English. The Beta only has English to Thai. Please add back the Thai to English speed review.
I feel the same way. In particular, Iâm not a fan of the gifs at the end at all. If they must stay, Iâd hope for a way of opting out of seeing them.
Hi @ausprobieren,
A lot of Community courses being looked after do have alternatives now so either is right eg
Table (the table) = Mesa and La Mesa.
Sometimes the alternatives are visible and other times hidden, so hitting enter should give a right answer.
Hi @sonoaleida and @111176, weâre finding it difficult to reproduce the freezing in the middle of the speed review session issue. It would be really helpful to find out some information to help us diagnose the issue. Could you share the following:
- course name/id
- the word that the session frozes on (I can see that above in the screenshot, I think)
- what browser version was being used
Thanks
Hi @eel_in_a_hovercraft , weâre finding it difficult to reproduce the issue with duplicate answer options that you describe. It would be really helpful to find out some information to help us diagnose the issue. Could you share the following:
- course name/id
- the word that the session frozes on (I can see that above in the screenshot, I think)
- what browser version was being used
Thanks
Hi @ausprobieren, could you share what course you were learning and saw this issue on? It does sound like a confusing issue for a learner.
Whilst Memrise creates the content in official Memrise language courses, we donât moderate the content in community created courses for language accuracy. That is up to course creators. Knowing what type of course it is would help in diagnosing this issue.
Here you go:
- the course name is 4000 Intermediate Advanced Audio ExpressionsâŠitâs an Italian course
- the word the session froze on: Le zone dâombra
- The browser version is Firefox 83.0 (64 Bit) âŠand itâs up to date in case that makes a difference
Today the screen froze on these two answers:
- porre in essere
- vorrei anche vedere
Thanks,
Aleida
I totally agree about those gifs at the end. I feel like theyâre mocking me for having failed to complete the session
The screenshot Iâd provided is for course 375351/duolingo-irish
The âMĂ LĂșnasaâ is not the only item with a duplicate in this course. It just happened to be the first word in that session and I grabbed a screenshot of it.
There are other words with âmimics that are actually trapsâ in this course. I donât encounter them all everyday but I did see another one today: âbailĂonn sĂâ.
In case it helps,
âbailĂonn sĂâ is in level 12 (âVerbs Present 1 - 2ndConjâ)
âMĂ LĂșnasaâ is in level 21 (âDates/Time: Seasons/Monthsâ)
I mainly use Google Chrome (current version 87.0.4280.66) but I also get the behaviour in MS Edge (87.0.664.47)
Thanks.
the course name is 4000 Intermediate Advanced Audio Expressions
Hi @sonoaleida,
Can you give us a link to the course so we, the community, can check it please.
Also is this learning, reviewing or speed review?
It should be this course (Iâm learning it as well):
Hereâs the link to the course:
The screen freezes up during a speed review session. Today the screen froze up on the word:
- sei una persona accurata
Hi Olaf,
Iâm learning it as well
Thatâs good, so you can check it out (test it).
Is @Polpo_D able to look at this issue as well?
Today the screen froze on:
- lâorso polare
- porre in essere (this is the second time this week that this expression has frozen up on me)
Hey, just providing more info⊠I came across the âMĂ LĂșnasaâ mimic again and grabbed a screenshot.
The 4 answer options are the same as the previous screenshot for the same term, but the positions are different.
The big problem is, if itâs not an Official MemRise course, then it may be an issue with the course and not the system.
So the Creator or a Contributor has to consider it.
âŠand todayâs frozen terms are:
- non volevo che andassi al risparmio
- mi chiedevo a proposito
Speed review is super problematic. Iâm learning Icelandic, and some of the sentences are really long, so there isnât time to read all of the options. I also really wish that the heart regeneration can come back, and that I could set the length of speed review. 100 questions is just too long!
One major problem with Icelandic is that words have different endings based on their gender, number, and function in the sentence. Previously, these details would be in parentheses after the word so you knew which version of the word the program was looking for, but now it just puts the word. For example, I just finished a speed review where it gave the English word âmoreâ with four options in IcelandicâŠthe only problem was that two of the Icelandic options meant âmore,â but with different gender/number, so thereâs no way to know which of the two is correct. Iâm sure this is an issue for any language with declension.
As with everyone else, I also hate the gifs at the end.
