Virtual keyboard suddenly gone?!

I was not using memrise for a couple of days, and when I back there, the character/word/letter or whatever button suddenly gone. You know, that button to help you type in foreign language.
How to return it to normal?

I’m using chromium as always.
Edit: I think it is called virtual keyboard, is it? #CMIIW

I think that is the same problem i now have - there is no multiple choice option. And if you do not have a Japanese keyboard then it is impossible to input the right characters.

Thank you for sharing about this issue.
I have the same problem. It was fine this morning when I used memrise (the website version), but now the virtual keyboard is gone! I am studying Korean and I have Firefox Quantum. Without this keyboard, I can’t write the answers in Korean…

Same here. I can’t continue my Mandarin Level 1 course because I can’t type the pinyin, I need the multiple choice characters.

Ah! I just tried again with my Korean lessons, and the virtual keyboard with the different Korean characters is here again! How is it for you?

Mine is back too.
I think it’s related to Memrise Release Notes - 28 Nov 2017 (Update on changes to typing test)
Checkout that post to see what had changed.

edit: maybe not :v

Memrise made a change. Here’s what happened:

After changes made to the typing test back in September, we received some feedback from all of you. As always, thank you! We’ve heard you and now we’re releasing the next batch changes:

You said: “Having the characters needed for the answer in the keyboard makes the tests TOO easy!”

The change: The in-app keyboard will now only contain a set list of special characters for each language (e.g. x for German), this means that it won’t include any of the characters needed to answer the test.

You said: “Auto-accept is great!” but you also said “Auto-accept is definitely not great!”

The change: Auto-accept will be enabled for typing test answers. Your feedback was mixed, so for this one we’re running with the belief that the increase in speed through the session makes it a net improvement for your learning experience.

Thanks, and happy type-testing!

I tried to give you the link to the forum post, but I haven’t figured out how to do that. There is a lot of discussion on that forum about this issue happening now.

Hi guys,
Same here for the Japanese lessons, the virtual keyboard still hasn’t come back… And I do not kno how to type kanji with my European keybord. Do I have to find them on google and them copy them to answer? That is getting quite ridiculous.

I’m learning the Japanese 1 and 2 from memrise, and JLPT form jtalk, both has the virtual keyboard.
Have you tried different browser or clearing cache?

about typing in kanji,…
You can change input system to japanese using latin keyboard. I installed one,
write suki and it appear すき then press space, and it turn to 好き then press enter to apply, or just write more words.
It makes thing easier and faster, even so, I still want a virtual keyboard to learn to read.
Search “japanese input system for <windows/mac/linux, depends on your OS>” at google.

You use an IME like every Japanese person and Japanese learner on the planet. No you don’t have to ‘google’ for Kanji, you type them using an IME, which you need to install and learn to use.
