How should I enter pinyin? In some of the questions they used to provide some of the letters now the pinyin questions almost dont have any of the letters I need. I tried to download the google input for chinese but when I type the correct pinyin for it the app still marks it wrong. Is it an error or will it only handle a specific kind of input?
((i don’t use the app, but) if you mean the “official” courses, the tones are irrelevant … you need no accents, just type “yi”
As Hydroptere mentioned, typing just “yi” might work. Alternatively, you might be able to type “yi1”. If neither of those work, let us know, as there are other options 
This problem persists, it won’t accept as correct “yi”, “yi1” nor “yī”
Sounds like it might be a bug in the app, then

Turned out it isn’t a bug , It was asking for the English translation not the pinyin. That only became clear to me later on for words whose English translations are longer
