Ходить, идти,

I get the basic concept of using the unidirectional and multi directional verb but there were examples in my textbook I quite
dont understand why this verb was used.

  1. Траваи сюда не ходят.
The book says scheduled transportation with a regular route . I was womdering why ходить is used instead of идти.

  2. Она хочет ходить в школу пешком. Im trying to figure it out why ходить is used instead of идти. I thought it was because its just talking about general that she likes to go to school on foot. Not particular moment but in general?

Please help!! Thank you.

Hi @keepthafaith,

You are right, “ходить” is used for a repeated action or a general rule, while “идти” is a one off action. In the 1st sentence, if we have used “Трамваи сюда не идут” that could mean that usually they do go here but not today. Same in the 2nd sentence: “идти” would mean just today, as an exception.

All the best
