Title doesn't sync, courses don't appear when connected to the Internet and offline download crashes (I have added a workaround to these issues!)

Device: Samsung Galaxy Nexus I9250
OS: Android 4.2.1

Since the rocket ship design was implemented, the Android application doesn’t work at all on my device when it’s connected to the internet. In the previous version, there would be a spinning semi circle that would go on forever (approx 1/20 times it would sync and work). In the new version there is no spinning semi circle, and the application never loads. If I turn the WiFi off it will load my previously downloaded courses and work, but of course no possibility to sync.

Will this be fixed? I have waited for more than 3 updates hoping that such a glaring issue would be resolved, since it hasn’t I have posted here. I really hope this issue is fixed, because I had high hopes and I even payed for a years pro membership. Basically a month of it has now been wasted. I would definitely recommend it to friends but at this point it seems pointless if it doesn’t even work?

Hey all, more to add:

It seems like my problem with connecting was due to the courses that I had downloaded. Once I deleted the courses and cleared all the data, it was able to connect.

Sadly, the download feature is broken (I am a pro user so it doesn’t have anything to do with the change in this feature), so the most recent Android version doesn’t work for me.

Thankfully, I have found a workaround that allows me to use offline courses, and also sync with the server.

You have to download the Memrise APK from a website that keeps old versions of Android software:
http://memrise.en.uptodown.com/android/old

The version that I found to work is 2.9_3813_memrise. Sadly the performance isn’t as good as the last working Android version I had, which doesn’t seem to be archived there. Also another thing to note is that it seems that between this version and the working Android version, the formula seems to be slightly off, as it sometimes repeats the same word in a row.

But hey at least I can now continue my vocab learning in transit! I hope this solution helps others too!
