Hey all. I’ve got a question. I’ve been learning a new language for a couple of years ago. Thanks to memrise, I know SO many words and I was able to learn A LOT of grammar… I’m able to really nicely write complex sentences, and I understand the language well too. There’s just one problem.
I rarely get the chance to speak the language; and when I meet a native speaker; I somehow can not contstruct natural sentences. I’m just too slow in making complex phrases, so I mess up and use simple grammar instead…
My question is… How I train this? I was wondering if anyone has some tips that I didn’t yet think of…
Well the most important thing is having people around you that speak the specified language. In that manner, you will improve steadily in time.
An alternative is reading books in that language. But this improves your writing more than it does for speaking. Still an important thing nonetheless.
Make internet friends that you can talk with in the language. Video chat them or call them on the phone that way you are actually speaking to them and not just texting them (since you want to improve your speaking and not just writing).
I’ve heard that apps like Hellotalk and similar apps to that one can be very beneficial. It is an app where you can talk to native speakers of the language you are learning, might be worth checking that out or other apps that are similar.
Bit late here but I really recommend wespeke. It has been invaluable to me
