The reviewing problem (Barron 1100)

Dear developer,

I have just subscribed to memrise and started a vocabulary course “Barron 1100” since last week. I found that the review function is absurb becuase it asks us to type the correct vocab by displaying its meaning. It is almost useless when there are so many synonyms in such large collection of vocabulary, such as “arcane, abstruse, tortoise, opaque, incomphrensible” all have the same meaning, but the function only allow one input. That is making the review a very agonizing experience if the learnt words buldging. In my opinion, reviewing is one of the most important stage in memorising. We can easily lose the initial effort if it is not done in a timely manner.

Is there anyway to revert the review function? Like poping the vocab and we select the meaning? I have to adhere to my memorising plan for the coming exam. Please help.

Rgds,
Shawn

Assuming you\re talking about this course:

It is not created or maintained by Memrise. You could contact the course creator to add synonyms… But sadly, it seems that @grean.jon is not active on the forums (and most likely neither the site itself).
So you end up with 3 options:

  1. Drop the course and try another one.
  2. Don’t drop the course and just tolerate the errors.
  3. Ask one of the staff members if they could add you (or someone else willing) as a course contributor, and add the synonyms.

Would like to add that is a responsibility in retaining a course. So one shouldn’t remove words or alter meanings since this is a course with 15K learner.

Happy learning!
