The Polish course is, to say the least, not well polished. (I know, this pun is bad). Already in the first course, recordings are missing for many words.
Then there is the sound that cuts or disappears suddenly, so it quickly becomes impossible to continue. How can you do an exercise when the “speaker” icon in the app doesn’t work? Or when there is no sound whatsoever to confirm an exercise?
Then the sound quality for the female voice is constantly very bad, she seems to be standing too close to her mike and the way she pronounces is not clear at all, it sounds more like boudoir talk. Either that, or she had a very bad case of lower belly cramps that day.
The male voice is clear, the guy pronounces well, so he’s easily understood even for someone totally ignorant of Eastern European languages like me. I’d like to hear the same level of clarity and intelligibility with the female voice.
Then, “Meet the natives” is absent. It looks like if Memrise didn’t see fit to invest in that, just like they don’t seem to see the use of investing to get a Polish course that works properly.
I learned Italian with Memrise; it was an enjoyable experience even if there were a few glitches. The situation is totally different with Polish, and a lot of it is due to the much lower quality of the course.
I fear that if the first course is that bad, the following ones are going to be even worse.
Frankly, I wouldn’t be paying for a subscription if I had begun with Polish instead of Italian, so bad the difference is. I can’t even figure what more I am getting for my subscription in comparison with what the free version is.
And don’t get me started on the new color scheme which almost make me feel like I’m under forced labor.
