The minimum Android OS version will be bumped to 7.0 this week

In this week’s Android release, we’ll upgrade the minimum OS that we support from 6.0 to 7.0. This is something we do periodically when the percentage of active customers using a certain OS version fall below a specific number.

I’m on Android 6.0. What will change for me?

You will still be able to use the Memrise app as usual, but you will no longer be able to install new updates via Google Play from February 2022 onwards.

To make sure you can always keep the Memrise app up to date, you will need to upgrade to Android version 7.0 or above. If you can, we strongly advise you do this to always have the most stable and up to date version of the Memrise experience on your mobile device.

You can find instructions on how to do so on Google Play’s Support Page: How to update your Android version

You will then be able to find available updates for Memrise by visiting the Google Play Store.

All customers can also still continue learning on the web at memrise.com.

Why do you do this periodically?

We are constantly working to improve existing features and adding new content, and periodical updates to the minimum OS requirements are needed to ensure Memrise runs smoothly on all devices. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.
