So I rocked through Japanese 3 and found it quite easy.
I just started Japanese 4 and am shocked by how much harder it is. Not only are the sentences much longer with all the associated grammar and particles but often there will be 3 or 4 new Kanji in sentences as well.
I skipped Japanese 1 so I am not sure if Katakana was ever introduced. Luckily I studied both Hiragana and Katakana before starting memrise. I was a little surprised to see loan words in Hiragana in 2 and 3 but now in 4 Katakana is all over. I had to go back and check that I actually finished lesson three and didn’t miss something before 4.
Am I the only one?

I feel like it might be worth having a quick look at Japanese 1, but then again it would be a bit strange for them to re-introduce something that hasn’t appeared in 3 courses.
I thought something similar so I started Japanese 1 just to see. So far it is just Hiragana. I doubt they would throw in a bunch of kanji in unit 1 and then not have them reviewed at all in 2 and 3 only to make a reappearance in 4.
I am managing with 4 and I guess the challenge is kind of nice in a way. But the learning curve has changed so drastically that I imagine it would discourage many people. That being said I searched the forums here and no one else seems to have mentioned a difficulty jump.
