Thai: please recommend a good beginners course

can anybody explain what this definition means: “rao = us (one person)”. Is the pluralis majestatis (“royal we”?) or what?

(the entry is to be found in https://www.memrise.com/course/158689/basic-of-thai-language/ I suspect the creator did not visit memrise for a couple of years now)

edit: could one recommend an indeed good beginners course that does not (yet) require typing Thai? the most various transliterations circulate on memrise, it is a bit tiresome

I started my own private course, set it on “promt with Thai script, answer English”, but is this a good method with thai anyhow?

(((nevermind: I’ll quit the course, although the creator is a native Thai, it has inaccurate definitions and I cannot learn like this//is there any curator?//edit: Thai courses seem a mess; a French teacher from Bangkok (her self-description: “French, Thai and Burmese language Teacher in Alliance française Bangkok, Thailand”) gives me ก = kO: (ka̠ï); the English courses give me ก = Ga. And they do sound differently indeed - ))

เรา (rao) means we, us, or I (among friends)
พวกเรา (pûuak rao) means we
พวก (pûuak) means group
From context you will know the meaning, that is, we, us, I or me.
Thai language does not have any objective pronouns like English, so (rao) can mean “we” as the subject or “us” as the object.

As a beginner, I think you should learn the Thai Alphabet first and listen, listen, listen to Thai. Start with “Thai Alphabet Crash Course” and then after “Fundamental Thai”. Both have audio.
I like “Mrs. Yanisa’s Thai for foreigners” and “Mrs. Yanisa’s Beginner Thai Vocabulary” but they do not have any audio. If they had, that would be a great beginner course.

yeah, thanks, but my point was “us (one person)” - this would be plural majestatis. Personally, I did not find the Thai Alphabet crash course helpful… I’ll stick for a while with the French Ginette courses…

thanks

us (one person) should be “me”

any advice as how to remember that damn alphabet… i wanted to learn thai 1 year ago and the alphabet made me give up big time…
