The kanji is in the word column, and as you can see above, the word is therefore being tested on, despite the course settings being set to test me on the defition, as you can see below:
Sometimes it will test me on the word, and sometimes the defintion. Why the mix? The description “This is the column that will be presented as a prompt on questions” is clearly wrong in this case.
P.S. I have tried this on on both Windows 10 Chrome and Edge and on Ubuntu 16.04 Chrome and the bug is present on all.
This is the expected behavior. When you first learn the word you will be tested in both directions. After the item is fully learned (I think), it will only test in the direction you set, until you get the item wrong again. If you don’t want this behavior, you can install a userscript the user cooljingle made: https://github.com/cooljingle/memrise-no-reverse-translations
Ah thanks, If it’s only one-way for reviews then I don’t mind initially learning it both ways. Although the tooltip in the course settings is a little misleading.
