Sudden (and unrequested for) decrease of non-Latin fonts

in this course:

Remembering Simplified Hanzi 1 - by crystal92 - Memrise;

@Lien, could you please increase back the Chinese font? many many thanks

and in this course: HSK Level 6 - by DrewSSP - Memrise the same problem: Capture

this as well https://www.memrise.com/course/1627166/mandarin-characters-by-frequency/

what is happening? @Joshua? @MemriseSupport? ???

edit: my own Chinese courses are now affected, all of them, but at least there i can increase the font back to the old setting

I don’t know if it’s related or not, but I recently noticed a new glitch in the course editing:

When you go into a column’s settings, both of the options, “Show Bigger” and “Never Italicize” are unchecked, even if you checked them last time you were in the menu. This means that unless you remember to check them again before clicking “Save”, it will count them as unchecked.

I sent a bug report about it a week ago, but never heard any reply, and it’s still present. Maybe the course creator was going in to change something else and it got messed up? I’m not noticing any universal change in my own Japanese courses yet.

Edit: Meh, spoke too soon. Still nothing on any of my own courses, but this course is now showing tiny characters, too:

Much more difficult to work with, and it was fine yesterday. :confused:

I started seeing the same issue today. It was okay when I was practicing in the morning, but in the after the characters were tiny.

my own courses had this problem, and I did not mess with any settings- but you noticed that yourself Thanks!

the problem continues today, for higher level Hanzi and Kanji is terrible

the problem seem to be indeed that suddenly the “show bigger” is now back to unchecked by itself??? and this for a second time, yesterday night i’ve increased again the font in my courses, just to find them in the morning small again… @BeaTrisy? like “help”?

ruining learning …

I have experienced the same thing. Every time I click the check box for “Make Bigger” and save, that setting is not saved. Please fix this sudden glitch.

you mean for Greek and Hebrew you have the same problem?

Yes. So this is a problem that is not just affecting Chinese/Japanese characters.

I wonder nobody feels compelled to answer this… the higher levels of Hanzi are now almost unreadable

yeah, thanks!

If help doesn’t come - it happens incidentally - I sometimes send a PM. Option?

And yes, it impairs your learning, as it is difficult to read what’s on the screen.
As a workaround, does it help to use CTRL + (no, I didn’t forget anything after the plus (’+’), it is CTRL plus a ‘+’), to make the browser showing bigger fonts? Everything will look bigger though.

the same issue in here (long time ago, lien increased the fonts and made me a contributor)

https://www.memrise.com/course/187378/cantonese-first-400-words-with-audio/;

also in https://www.memrise.com/course/150701/hong-kong-places/

Given that Cantonese is written in traditional Characters… also for Taiwan … (https://www.memrise.com/course/258075/cheng-manching-style-taijiquan-training/)

edit: the fonts problems remain unsolved, I wonder why nobody from the team seems to care a tiny bit about users lately… I am so tired of continously increasing the fonts in my courses, again and again and again… I don’t have editing rights in my own courses??? @BenWhately, would you please help?

Have you had a look of the Memrise2Anki importer AnkiSRS addon?

unfortunately I don’t have the time for fingering with anki… and i am upset for courses that I’ve been taking for a while… well, ut seems soon enough i have to let up my own system outside memrise…

I concur with your frustration. Send a PM Ben or Matt or whoever you think is best. I know that works for other people at times. Who knows… Until now, this isn’t working.

Hi all,

Our development team has been working on a fix for this issue and it will be released shortly.

Sorry for the delay, and thank you for your patience.
